Low Low are not a band to rest on their laurels. Only one year on from their last appearance in Birmingham, we have yet another great new album and almost a completely new set, mostly taken from the new record. And yet again it’s a sold out gig. “We enjoy playing here”, Alan Sparhawk tells us, and he sounds like he really means it.

Dirty Three Within seconds of being on stage, you realise how amusing Warren Ellis is with his comments about the lights reminding him of a bad trip that may set trigger a recurrence, followed by an advert for launderette that has made his clothes smell amazing whilst threatening the soundman with the sack if he doesn’t make him sound more Jim Morrison. All of this before Dirty Three have even played a note.

Low What a night! I was lucky enough to see one of Low’s few current UK gigs in a small intimate venue like The Glee Club. The band are touring their latest album, C’mon. Low have been around since 1993 and have gained a high critical reputation over the years, being championed by the late John Peel, amongst others. However, they have now deservedly come to the attention of a wider audience, especially following use of many of their songs on TV and after Robert Plant (a big fan) recorded two of their songs on his Band of Joy album, in 2010.
