Gig Review by Cheyberpunk with Photography by Kal Ahmed

UB40

What a fantastic venue for any artist to play at. The sold out UB40 gig started after some old chart reggae songs to get everyone in the mood for the main event.

The lights went down then turned to red then blue then the 3 brass players walked to the front as the crowd were cheering and screaming at this main event they had all been waiting for. It is amazing to hear beautiful instruments played so well. As the other band members joined the throng the sound got bigger and louder and then as Duncan Campbell joined the ensemble the noise from the crowd was immense they were in their element especially at the mention the band would be doing some of their old songs! The atmosphere was lovely with people dancing and singing along everyone seemed to be having a fabulous time. Although it was very hot in the venue they could have done with some air conditioning, even the band commented on how hot it was! It must have been worse for them as there was a great lighting system which was used to its full extent.

They have a new album which is out now and did several songs from that amongst the old favourites it was a very good mix as was the audience. There was a vast age range from teenagers to the stalwart fans that had been there from the start.

After over an hour long set they left the stage and the crowd screamed for more so they came back on and did another half an hour or so. Lots of the old favourites including ‘Red Red Wine’ which drove the audience into a friendly uproar.

A thoroughly enjoyable evening to all it would seem with great music and musicians.
