The Tide

The young crowd screamed at ear piercing levels as support act New Hope Club warmed up for headliners The Vamps. Former Stereo kick Reece Bibby and his band mates had the teenage girls raising their phone flashlights as they previewed their new ep track ‘Perfume’ engaging with fans before Disney channel favourite Sabrina Carpenter took the stage.

New Hope Club

Following hot on the footsteps of the likes of Miley Cyrus and Selena Gomez, Sabrina Carpenter adorned in a red satin top with matching Cape. The former ‘Girl Meets World’ star shone brightly on the stage addressing the audience with a sultry “hello boys and girls!” backed by a band reminiscent of an old time jazz clubs smoky beats and heavy bass lined tracks opening with ‘Smoke and Fire’ and powering through a set list that included a cover of Bruno Mars’ recent smash ‘That’s What I Like’ and her fan favourite ‘Thumbs’ coaxing the audience into learning the moves for the track alongside her.

As the Genting Arena fell into darkness, the curtain dropped for an explosive pyrotechnic bang as The Vamps bounced onto the stage to smash hit ‘Wake Up’ ready for the last date of the UK tour and homecoming gig. Front man Brad Simpson whipped the crowd into a frenzy decked in his trademark floral pattern shirt as he asked the crowd, “are you ready to have a sing and dance with us tonight?”

Cooly sipping tea from a mug in between songs Brad confirmed the appeal that the quartet have on all ages, whilst admittedly the majority of the fan base was young teenage girls loving the boy band vibe, the humbleness and the fact Brad, Connor, James and Tristan play their own instruments has the moms a dads rocking and singing along on their feet.

Bright visuals on the stage and videos from the boys talking raised the temperature and the screams as The Vamps energetically performed running up and down the runway stage, plowing through new song ‘Hands’. Sabrina Carpenter joined them onstage for crowd favourite ‘Somebody To You’.

The crowd sang along with a sea of smartphone screens to hit after hit, erupting with ‘Can We Dance’ and Suggs cover ‘Cecilia’ keeping the crowd on their feet before getting funky with a high octane drum contest between Brad and Tristan.

‘Paper Heart’ captivated the audience with the fan made video, 7000 fans sent in photos to twitter of lyrics from the song to make the video, which features on their third album ‘Night and Day’ being released 14th July before the infectious beat of Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ filled the arena showing the versatility of the group improvising the lyrics to include chart favourites by SIA, Beyoncé, Clean Bandit and Shaggy, if you haven’t seen this before it’s highly recommended and can be found on YouTube.

As the high energy night drew to a close with ‘All night’ you could see that no one left disappointed, with fire displays, strobe lighting, catchy melodies and The Vamps interacting constantly with their fans.

Birmingham was the last date in the UK and now their off around Europe with Little Mix, but fear not the boys are back in the UK in July with some festival appearances thrown in too!
