The Kooks

Walking into spacious venue of the o2 Academy, I fight my way through the crowds, as this jam packed setting is fit to burst. With a bevvy in hand I hear a thunder of screams as The Kooks enter the stage! Pop rock at its best, the band kick starts the night with ‘Around Town’ which instantly sets the audience off, singing and dancing along.

The Kooks

Throwing us straight back to 2006 with hits from the album ‘Inside In/Inside Out’, ‘Ooh Lah’ is their 3rd song of the night immediately making me re-live my teenage years, buzzing over the popular band that I just couldn’t get enough of!

From the release of the 2014 album ‘Listen’ their song ‘Bad Habit’ gets everyone chanting along, as with ‘Forgive and Forget’ the thrill in the room is great, with the four piece British Indie Rock Band displaying their new earthy, echoey and upbeat rock tones discovered in their new album.

The Kooks

They bring about a true festival vibe feeling within the venue, and what would a festival be without beer glasses being thrown in the air, and of course some over pumped idiots starting a fight… well these guys were having none of it. Just as me and the rest of this eager audience were getting into the awesome ‘She Moves in Her own Way’, the music stops and Pritchard embarrasses the pair fighting, allowing ‘Boos’ from the audience to commence, until it’s broken up. The band picks up where they left off with the fans even more enthusiastic to sing along.

‘Seaside’ proves lead, Pritchard, has some lungs and the summer time sensations become even more apparent! Another rowdy pair gets dragged out of the audience by security, unluckily for them, this band is not to be messed with.

Clearly knowing the audience is made up of long-time fans, they do not disappoint, ending the set with ‘Naïve’ this band knows where they hit it off in the music industry, and it’s a long fete to keep those fans fanatical! The Kooks have kept their quirky beats and catchy lyrics and never fail to entertain, keep it up lads!
