Slash The music journalist in me has always wanted to do a Slash gig. It’s not that I’m a massive fan - admittedly he’s a decent axe man and I do like the whole cigarette and top hat thing he’s got going on - but I do find his guitar playing a wee bit ‘twiddly’ at times. Or as my fellow muso Miss Toni Woodward refers to it ‘noodley’. Anyway, I digress. The main reason why I’ve always wanted to see the curly haired rocker from Stoke perform is to use a headline based around the 80’s film icon whom happened to waltz around in skin tight shorts, whilst playing the nemesis of Ming the Merciless. Blink 182 As a huge black curtain covered the stage and men climbed the ladders to take their seats in the heights of the lighting rigs, the crowd began to cheer and it was a tense few minutes waiting for that curtain fall. But eventually, the arena turned to black, the crowd screamed, bright lights lit up the stage and there gracing Birmingham were the American pop punk heroes Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge and Travis Barker. The trio brought the LG Arena to life with ‘Feeling This’ from their 2003 self- titled album Blink 182 and it was the start of an amazing 90 minute set.

Lionel Richie I signed up to review Lionel Richie because a friend of mine had seen him live and told me he actually danced on the ceiling, which was a feat I had to see for myself. Arriving at the LG Arena, I feel slightly out of place but with fabulous tickets; beer in hand, I sense this could be a fun night. Luckily, there is no support for tonight's show as I probably would have missed it, because it has taken forever to get from the car park to the arena let alone purchase a drink.
