Calling Festival 2014 London’s Calling Festival at Clapham Common may have lost ‘Hard Rock’ from its aforementioned name but Saturday night saw US legends  Aerosmith inject some Rock back into the one-day festival with a two-set full of stonking classics from the best-selling  band.

Pixies With their unique brand of weird surf-punk and experimentation, Pixies have proved to be an incredibly influential band and have been name checked by Kurt Cobain and David Bowie, among others. While now legendary, they never achieved massive success during their original incarnation. Reunion rumours were rife until they finally got back together in 2004 for what proved to be a series of instantly sold-out gigs. Intermittent tours since have reputedly grossed millions of dollars, but the question has remained, will they ever record new material?

Garbage Tonight’s band were ‘manufactured’. Full stop. Polar opposite to the usual mates or friends of friends coming together to form a band - two producers and a sound engineer thought it would be a rather good idea to form a band. Then they found a wee Scottish lass to front it. And while this particular path may not have been the easiest ‘Vow’ blew everyone away; four albums sold over 17 million albums in a decade - and then they disappeared from view. Tonight they’re back; they’re far from rubbish - they are, indeed, Garbage.
