Halestorm This tour feels like an important one for Halestorm; the hard rocking fourpiece have shown they can win over an arena crowd with a short, sharp set, but what about the prospect of them making it back to the big venues on their own? This headline run of decent sized venues could go some way to determining their next step.

Bombay Bicycle Club It’s been two years since Bombay Bicycle Club graced Wolverhampton with their presence, and the marked change in sound and pace since their 2011 album ‘A Different Kind of Fix’ was pretty evident tonight, playing a set mostly comprising of their newer, heavier, electro and in parts R&B influenced material from their latest album ‘So Long, See You Tomorrow’. Things have certainly evolved for this London 4-piece, with each of their 4 albums carrying the progression of UK indie with them, and who seem to be one of the most inventive indie bands around right now.

Ben Howard By the time I’d grabbed a pint and squeezed into the venue of Wolves Civic, the lush Mr Ben Howard had entered a black out stage and I’d been immediately deafened by woops and screams… and when I say squeezed, I mean breathing down the neck of the person in front of me at this completely sold out gig.

Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott Arriving terrible late to the venue after hitting traffic most of the way there. I arrive at a sold out Civic Hall with half an hour to spare before Paul Heaton and Jacqui Abbott took to the stage. There are fans gathered outside for a cheeky smoke and a few alcohol fuelled revellers enjoying some lively banter.

Robert Plant On a very wet Friday evening, the Wolverhampton Civic Hall is the busiest I have ever seen it, all waiting in anticipation for local rock royalty to take to the stage in the form of Robert Plant. As the house lights fade, the stage takes on a purple hue whilst Indian folk music replaces Sonic Youth and after a few minutes the Sensational Space Shifters enter followed by the living legend himself. Dressed simply in a black shirt and jeans with his trademark hair tied back, Plant still has the stature of a true rock star.

The Specials Thursday night, Civic Hall, Wolverhampton, it must be The Specials. It's cold outside, but inside The Civic, the crowd are warming up nicely for an evening of classic Two-Tone from The Specials and some Dancing with The Rude Boys.

Jake Bugg Spoiler Alert!  This review is full of superlatives about the uber talented young man from Clifton Nottingham. Please don’t read any further if this offends you. Gigs Junkies favourite son, Mr Jake Bugg, who we’ve basically been touting forever (see - we reviewed him here yonks ago) was back, just down the road from his homeland on the West side of the Midlands at the splendid Civic Hall in Wolverhampton.

alt-J I became an instant fan of alt-J ever since I stumbled across their debut single ‘Tessellate’ back in 2011. The way this 4-piece manage to effortlessly combine folksy yet forceful vocals and guitar riffs over layers of sometimes ethereal, sometimes downright explosive synths and percussion, is perhaps one of many reasons alt-J can seemingly do no wrong. Their debut album 'An Awesome Wave' scooped the Barclaycard Mercury Prize for Best Album as well as being named BBC 6Music's Album of The Year following global critical acclaim.

Slam Dunk Festival Another year of Slam Dunk, another year of flitting between stages and attempting to avert the eyes from the tiny denim shorts and the flesh they are revealing in 80% of their wearers. Tattoos a plenty are on show. The boys are a mix of sleek quiffs, emo hair and long tresses, whilst the girls bring the colour to the hair from vintage rockabilly looks to straight up grunge, with a few corsets and heels for good measure.

Tom Odell I’ve been interested in Tom Odell, long before ‘Can’t Pretend’ was used to advertise the latest series of The Newsroom (at which my heart dropped as no good has ever come from someone whose song has been used in advertising before they’ve even established themselves). ‘Can’t Pretend’ reeled me in the very first time I heard it – not so much through any complexity, but instead through the rhythmic ebb and flow of a song whose melody blended with simplistic lyrics to create a rousing tidal wave crashing down and leaving only an empty flat refrain – an aftermath, acceptance of the unhealthy relationship described therein. A song written by a talented songwriter that left me wanting more. Fast forward through 2013, the release of Long Way Down, a string of nominations and awards, and now I finally had the opportunity to see him live.

Simple Minds Simple Minds flatly refuse to give up and go away. Na no. Stadia shows may be a few years ago (although arenas are a' beckoning later in the year) this is the second time in just over 12 months they've played a mid-sized venue, playing all their hits from days gone by. And by all accounts it's a great idea - tonight's gig is totally sold out.
