Fields of the Nephilim So to the main event, Fields of the Nephilim, The Nephilim, The Neff, Carl McCoy. I first saw them back in 1987 in some tiny polytechnic, and came out covered in flour, ringing ears but with complete love. They rarely tour these days, no, correction, they never tour and rarely play, in England we’re lucky to get two of three gigs a year and I had high hopes tonight. I wasn’t disappointed.

Roy Wood So with just a handful of sleeps before Christmas it is only truly festive to pop along to see one of those people who gave us one of those true Christmas songs we've sung along to for all these years. In the Symphony Hall, Birmingham, with a plethora of special guests, and a pretty much sold out crowd in full Christmas spirit akin in Santa hats and festive garb - let us welcome the Roy Wood Rock & Roll Band

Kula Shaker How times flies. It's been 20 years since these guys brought their brand of psychedelic pop rock to the airwaves, on the crest of the Brit-pop wave, one of the more eccentric and somewhat mystical of the bands of the time. A raft of top #10 hits and a #1 album - Kula Shaker an in town tonight - to celebrate those twenty years ago when that album 'K' was riding high.

James I was particularly looking forward to this one. James have always been a band I’ve admired but one I’ve never really got to know better. The last time I saw them Adamski was Number One which shows just how lax I’ve been and it was high time I found out how the band had matured. (More than me I was to find out).

Lissie After a foot-tappingly elongated wait at the bar for a pint of cider, U.S born Lissie entered the stage with guitarist Nick Tesoriero and forecast an alleviating cloud across the audience, kindling their gig spirits with track ‘Hero’ introducing her set.

Bullet For My Valentine 10 years has passed since Bullet For My Valentine hit the scene, headlining the Kerrang! Tour and it just so happened they are playing the very same venue again tonight. Alongside that they released their first full release 'The Poison', although tonight's show isn't about that there is definitely a sense of nostalgia with fans new and old in attendance.

Emmy The Great It's been, unbelievably, 10 whole years since Emma-Lee Moss rechristened herself Emmy The Great and embarked on a career that's produced three studio albums, a soundtrack to the film Austenland and a number of collaborations.

Agnes Obel YES YES YES! AN ALL WOMEN SET! (I couldn't help but hop excitedly from foot to foot at this. I'm so tired of all male backing, even for women! Nice one, Agnes!) her crew consisted of a cellist, oboe player, Agnes on keyboards, and another woman on drum machine. All dressed in white - they appeared formidable.

Pierce The Veil The release of their latest album Misadventures brought Pierce The Veil to the O2 Birmingham Academy on this frosty Saturday evening. Ever popular in the UK, it was no surprise that this show was a complete sell out – even Radio 1 Rock Show’s Dan P Carter bypassed the German Markets to grace The Academy with his presence.

Lush Tonight is a truly momentous occasion as Lush play their last ever gig. These legendary purveyors of ‘shoegaze’ originally split in 1996 after the sad death of drummer Chris Acland, but reformed last year to record an EP and play UK, European and US dates. However, with bassist Phil King’s recent decision to quit, the band have finally decided to call it a day. For tonight’s final gig, front-women Miki Berenyi and Emma Anderson and drummer (since the band reformed) Justin Welch are joined by Modern English bassist Michael Conroy.

The Courteeners The Courteeners. Manchester's sons are often dismissed in the music press, presumably because of some kind of London centric snobbishness aimed at the North of England. The Courteeners and their army of fans care not for such an attitude. One of the reasons the band are so popular is that they know their audience. Whether it be recruiting Milburn to join them in Yorkshire or coming out to the fevered howl of Oasis' 'Morning Glory', they know how to raise excitement to fever pitch.

Jesca Hoop I came late to the Hoop train, as mentioned in my earlier review of her tour with Sam Beam (of Iron and Wine fame). It’s no secret that I obsess over female singer songwriters - specifically those whose songs elicit feelings of sorrow and loss. Hoop’s earlier work varies in sound to my ears - unbeknownst to me, I’d heard ‘Born To’ many many times on BBC 6Music, without registering who she was, with it washing over me. But that song is heavily produced, with full band. And my preference is Hoop on her own with a guitar, stripped back and intimate.

The Front Bottoms The Front Bottoms have barely left the UK over the last couple of years, which shows how they've gone from playing the Temple to the Main room here tonight. The stage is dressed to feel like a cozy living room, filled win standard lamps and a sofa complete with jaded girl glued to phone. ‘Scream’ plays on an old TV and only the double mirror ball fun denotes the occasion.

Frank Turner Anyone who knows me will know I love a good name drop so let’s get that out of the way first. I was lucky enough to be involved with a live interview with Frank Turner on Sine FM the afternoon of the gig. I mention this not only for shameful name dropping but also because one of the things we touched on was support acts for the tour. Frank hand picks his support acts and they are invariably worth watching.
