Billy Idol On this Bonfire Night we lucky things at Gig Junkies are off to see fireworks in Brum of a different kind. And we're kinda excited!  Cos we're here to see former punk of Generation X fame, who went to American to seek fame and found it and then some! With a Rebel Yell and far, far more than that - success beckoned with attitude-laced hits that were chant-fantastic. And the blonde bombshell with the snarl that Elvis would be jealous of, is here tonight - ladies and gentlemen - welcome Billy Idol.

Paolo Nutini From Glastonbury to Bridlington - part of the Paolo Nutini tour? No! Just the twice I have seen Mr Nutini over the years and the distinct difference in the places is very certainly reflected in the changes in Paolo’s music and live performance.

Cate Le Bon Three albums on, and despite work with the likes of Neon Neon (Gruff Rhys) and Manic Street Preachers, Cate Le Bon is still, alas, a well kept secret, but for how long? Fortunately for us punters in the meantime, this means that we can still get to see her perform in small and intimate venues like The Hare and Hounds.

Tom Odell I’ve been interested in Tom Odell, long before ‘Can’t Pretend’ was used to advertise the latest series of The Newsroom (at which my heart dropped as no good has ever come from someone whose song has been used in advertising before they’ve even established themselves). ‘Can’t Pretend’ reeled me in the very first time I heard it – not so much through any complexity, but instead through the rhythmic ebb and flow of a song whose melody blended with simplistic lyrics to create a rousing tidal wave crashing down and leaving only an empty flat refrain – an aftermath, acceptance of the unhealthy relationship described therein. A song written by a talented songwriter that left me wanting more. Fast forward through 2013, the release of Long Way Down, a string of nominations and awards, and now I finally had the opportunity to see him live.

Joanne Shaw Taylor It was the salubrious surround of Birmingham’s Town Hall that greeted us, surrounded by wood clad stands full of German goods and yummy Bavarian food on the cold Autumnal Friday in Brum for Joanne Shaw Taylor's home coming gig.

Lucy Rose Lucy Rose's sweet vocals have found themselves all over 6Music's airwaves over the past few months, not to mention featuring on a couple of Bombay Bicycle Club records. But it's great to see that this talented artist is finally getting the recognition she deserves, and tonight, in front of a packed room at The Institute she more then justifies all the attention.

Nerina Pallot The Glee Club Birmingham is one of the UK's premier hot spots for both recognised and emerging comedy talents from the World over. Sunday night however is all about the music, but whether taking inspiration from the venue or more likely she is genuinely really humorous (I think it's the later) Nerina Pallot seemed equally as happy on stage delivering well timed intelligent quip and joke alike as she did delivering her splendid repertoire of gorgeous songs. If she wasn't such a splendid musician, it is apparent she'd be on stage in some guise.

John Cale John Cale is a legend in the music business, having been a founder member of the seminal 1960s band the Velvet Underground. However, now aged 70, he is in no mood for nostalgia and spends most of the evening promoting his new album ‘Shifty Adventures in Nookie Wood’ and other recent work.

Chris Isaak “Other than his two classics name a Chris Isaak song?” This was how the conversation went on the way to the Civic Hall in Wolverhampton on Saturday night. We struggled. Fast forward two hours and whilst we still couldn’t name more than a handful of his hits the Gig Junkies photographer and I were reeling from the spectacle we had just witnessed. Superlatives a-plenty could be used to describe what we had seen, ‘spellbinding’ and ‘amazing’ being merely a couple.

Polly Paulusma Fortunately, Polly Paulusma arrived and opened her intimate acoustic set with some distinctly contorted chord structures and capo assisted open tunings with the appositely titled, 'She Moves In Secret Ways.' Quite why this lady hasn't blown both homeland UK and USA Nu-Folk scenes to smithereens away by now is a matter of perplexing conjecture.

Michael Kiwanuka Every now and then you go to a gig that you’re not overly excited about and then, a couple of hours later, you walk out of the venue spellbound by what you've just seen and heard. It’s as if you’ve witnessed history, something magical that futuristically will be written in annuls of time. Monday night at the Wulfrun Hall Wolverhampton, was – in my humble opinion – one such occasion.

Marina and the Diamonds I love Marina and her Diamonds (ahem!). She's everything a woman should be... Young, sexy, curves in all the right places, sassy, seemingly intellectual, talented both musically and vocally and generally just awesome! In short - she hot! And any girl that can still look tidy in a Micky Mouse jump suit certainly has that je ne sais qua!
