Rhodes By half 8, the Village Underground is already packed, and Rhodes isn’t due on for another hour. It’s no surprise: his debut album hasn’t even dropped yet, but bloggers and music fans have been hyping him ever since he released his first EP in 2013. Ben Howard Hammersmith Apollo was bursting at the seams with fans descending in the drove from the suitably balmy night air to catch a glimpse of folk singer Ben Howard. This 25 year old from West London has dominated the festival scene for the past couple of years and was nominated for the Mercury Prize Award before winning a Brit Award in early 2013. Gary Numan On a balmy June evening a full Leamington Assembly plays host to a one-off Gary Numan show ahead of the release of his forthcoming album “Splinter” in October and eagerly anticipated tour in November. Numan’s story is one of legend; a meteoric rise to fame with Tubeway Army’s “Are Friends Electric” and as a solo artist in the tail end of the seventies and beginning of the eighties with tracks such as “Cars”, “I Die, You Die”, “We Are Glass” et al. The rest of the 80’s became a rollercoaster ride of fame and (some mis)fortune up to the late 90’s where Numan finally began to receive some long overdue critical acclaim for his work.

Ben Howard It's not often that you're more excited about the support act than the main event when you attend a gig - especially when it is to see the flavour of the moment Ben Howard - but that's exactly how I felt as we made our way to a sodden O2 along with a multitude of other gig goers all anticipating a cracking night of folk/pop fusion with Messrs’ Ben Howard and America’s little known Willy Mason.

Bat for Lashes Right on time, Natasha Khan and her backing band enter a simply yet atmospherically lit stage, lanterns and angle photography lamps enhance rather than detract from her petite frame. The first song, of the evening, is Lillies which is the opening track from Bat for Lashes new album The Haunted Man. Instantly Khan’s vocal ability overwhelms you. She has a vast range which in its higher register has resemblances to Annie Lennox, not only in its tone but capacity to accurately hit the notes with such power and sensitivity.

Old Man Luedecke Canadian, Old Man Luedecke (quite young actually) is a trusty pick and strum, foot-stomping trad-banjo troubadour who bears an honest heart on his lumberjack shirt-sleeve. In a disarming box-car hobo spiritual and wood smokey Roots n’ Folk sort of way - his skewered, anecdotal takes on everyday vicissitudes, and how the banal can become bizarre, often turn lyrically surreal. Rumer Imagine, just imagine, that The Graces of poetry and music summoned the likes of The Carpenters, Carole King, Julie London, Dusty Springfield, Bert Bacharch, Mary Coughlan and Herb Albert and asked them to kiss some of their magical muse upon this unassuming, singularly charismatic young lady, (BB already has) Sarah Joyce, who goes by the professional persona of Rumer (after a poet). She records an album; lovers go all moonstruck, kittens and puppies are sighed at in pet shops and your what to get you know who Christmas present dilemma is solved. Of Anglo/Pakistani descent and a history worthy of a tale she’s no overnight success but has worked doggedly these past six years to gain her deserved recognition.
