Rat Boy So the story goes a little like this. As eager fans braved a wet, blustery night in what seemed to look like a never-ending queue at Birmingham Institute to see one of 2016`s hottest rising stars, the lone Gig Junkies contributor heard a voice after dodging traffic crossing the road enquiring where she was going, who was on and would it be a good night? A bit of “chit chat” as she enquired, to the out-of-town group of handsome young men “if they were going there too?” A cheeky grin flashed as “Rat Boy” coolly replied he was performing and then it dawned, talk about an #Epicfail but explaining who,why, where and when we parted with this Chelmsford charmer reminding to “write him a good review..."

Izzy Bizu Izzy Bizu is a singer/songwriter from South West London. Taking inspiration from the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, James Brown, Amy Winehouse and Adele, gives Izzy a unique sound with a vibrant mix of soul, jazz and pop shining through. It’s been a busy year for the BBC Music Sound of 2016 nominee. From having recorded a reworked version of Edith Piaf’s “La Foule”, used as the theme song for BBC’s Euro 2016 coverage, to releasing her debut album, “A Moment of Madness” earlier this month, Izzy has been going from strength to strength! Now, fresh off the summer festival circuit, Izzy Bizu is at Camden’s KOKO for a sold out performance, to show the people of London what she’s all about!

Ray Quinn The last time I saw Ray Quinn (musically) was 9 years ago when he released his debut album 'Doing It My Way'. 2015 saw Ray head back into the studio to start work on a new commercial sound that would return him to his music, bringing us to the 2016 'No Man’s Land' Tour.

Black Peaks + Heck Black Peaks take the headline spot and are welcomed on stage by a whistling crowd. Opening with ‘White Eyes’ they deliver a pitch perfect set. I have to confess I've yet to listen to their debut album, I had intended to listen the shit out of it, as Black Peaks singles have been a slow burn for me. Instead I was waiting to blown away live.

Festival No. 6 My final festival of the summer (and the year) finds me back at Portmeirion for the fifth Festival No.6, and my fourth visit to this wonderfully eclectic festival. The festival is spread over many stages across the “village” and the wider Portmeirion estate. As well as the usual festival style stages held in open fields, almost every nook and cranny in the village and the surrounding woodland was intended to be filled with something of interest going on over the weekend with over 1000 artists taking part in the festival.
