Johnny Marr I'm back at the Royal Festival Hall for part two of my Meltdown residency and as if Johnny Marr wasn't enough, the criminally overlooked Mystery Jets are here to offer support.

Billy Joel It’s a gorgeous summer’s evening in West London and the Piano Man is in town… More than 50,000 have embarked upon Wembley Stadium for Billy Joel’s only UK show of the year and something tells me they won’t be disappointed.

Men At Work Like many people of my generation, my first experience of Men At Work was Colin Hay, strumming his guitar in the daydreams of JD, in popular 2000s sitcom Scrubs. Overkill was the song in question, and once I’d busted out the dial up connection and spent 45 minutes downloading the track via Napster, I was hooked.

David Gray I doubt there are many people of my generation who won’t find a copy of David Gray’s mind-bogglingly successful White Ladder sitting in the CD rack in the family home. Looking back I can remember many an occasion of cracking open the stereo in countless houses and seeing White Ladder staring up at me, where it was at the time swiftly replaced by the new Limp Bizkit album (we’ve come a long way baby).

Tangerine Dream If you ask most people if they have heard of Tangerine Dream, they would probably assume you were talking about some kind of citrus-based dessert. However, I can guarantee that those same philistines would certainly recognise a whole handful of the German legends best-known tunes, whether they knew it or not. Be that via the soundtrack of one of their favourite TV shows or movies, Stranger Things and Bandersnatch are just two recent examples that have introduced the iconic synth act to a new realm of fans.

The Vaccines The Vaccines kick off with Your Love is My New Favourite Band and the crowd goes berserk, beers, shirts and even the odd shoe go flying through the air and the party is well underway. Teenage Icon, a catchy single from their sophomore effort Come Of Age follows and I can’t help but have my attention diverted from the band to the audience itself.

Wolf Alice Christmas gigs are always great, aren’t they? The atmosphere is festive with fancily dressed elves, reindeers and even Father Christmas himself in attendance at Brixton Academy, and to top it off, the Harry Potter theme is pumped through the speakers as Wolf Alice’s presence is imminent.

White Lies I’ve been to some sweaty gigs in my time but come on. The temperature in West London had reached 34 degrees as I arrived at Subterania, a tiny venue situated underneath a railway line, that was already packed to capacity. Straight away I knew I was in for an intense evening, and the surroundings were perfect for the first White Lies gig in almost a year.

British Summertime Hyde Park Ft. Roger Waters It’s not every day you get to spend a Friday afternoon, in 30-degree sunshine watching some of your favourite artists, especially in England. So with that caveat in place, if anyone was looking for negativity from this writer, they were going to have to work pretty bloody hard to find some (sadly this did occur, sigh). The first thing that struck me upon seeing the bill was what an eclectic mix of performers had been jumbled in together, if anyone can tell me the link between Roger Waters, Richard Ashcroft, Seasick Steve, Squeeze etc, answers on a postcard…
