Bush If, like me, you are a 30-something who grew up in South Africa, you almost certainly owned a copy of Bush’s ’94 album ‘Sixteen Stone’. You were also most likely a teenage girl with a crush on frontman Gavin Rossdale, or a teenage boy who had to lie about owning said album because you could NEVER listen to both Nirvana AND Bush. So, with Bush tracks dominating the soundtrack of my rebellious and tortured youth (my youth was neither rebellious nor tortured, but it makes me sound cooler than I am), it was with much excitement, and slight trepidation, that I made my way to o2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire on Tuesday evening, to see the band return to the stage after a couple of year’s absence from touring, with a headline UK show, and a new album to boot.

Deaf Havana It’s unseasonably mild for mid-February, and I turn up to the Institute expecting to wander straight in, wearing short-sleeves. However, I’m faced with a queue snaking past two side roads and round a bend. Short sleeves were not a good idea. There’s a cool breeze in the air. Tonight I'm here for a batch of band that I'm looking forward to - headlined by Deaf Havana.

The Cult “Don't put your hands up to me man… I can see you, putting up your fists, it's violent, we need a cool vibe here… none of that Peaky Blinders s**t” lead Singer Ian Astbury boomed over the microphone to an overzealous member of the crowd. “We're all adults, we need to show love, if it kicks off by you we need to intervene and look after each other”.
