FKJ Tuesday night in Manchester saw the coming together of an exponent of 80’s style Funk in the shape of French musician Dabeull and the dazzling musicianship of one man band FKJ (French Kiwi Juice) in the Manchester Ritz which was packed to rafters to catch one of his four dates in the UK as part of his European and US tour running right through to May 19.

Azealia Banks Azealia Banks is the queen. For me, she’s the modern-day version of Betty Davis, the free spirit that inspired Miles Davis. Young and wild, nasty (in a nice way), playful and sultry - and more than anything, she’s absolutely unbeatable on stage. Whether she’s spitting fire over the nastiest of beats, singing over massive club bangers or playfully crooning over a trippy jazz beat she sounds incredible.

Avatar I feel I’ve come a little late to the show for Avatar, despite the band being around for well over ten years, my first experience was at Download only last year, where they blew most of the opposition away with their metal freakshow circus antics. Since June last year I have managed to catch them on more than one occasion supporting Halestorm on their tour of the UK Academy circuit.

Starsailor It’s a staggering 15 years since Starsailor’s second album ‘Silence Is Easy’ was released and to celebrate the band are out playing three anniversary gigs. Manchester is sandwiched between Glasgow and London. Parquet Courts It’s good to be back in The Ritz, one of Manchester’s best larger venues. The listed Grade II building has real character. It was built 1927 as a dancehall and even has a genuine sprung dance floor. It’s been hosting rock gigs since the 1960s and has seen performances by many now legendary acts including The Beatles, REM, The Stone Roses, Magazine, The Smiths and The Arctic Monkeys. Tonight we add Parquet Courts to that list.

Anna Calvi Anna Calvi is an artist cut from the same cloth as Nick Cave, St.Vincent and PJ Harvey. Unique, intriguing and completely breath-taking to see live. She’s one of those artists that creates their own off-kilter world and invites you in to share their vision for an hour and a half, drawing you further and further in with every note.

Brian Fallon & The Howling Weather Brian Fallon walks on stage full of smiles with his band The Howling Weather, which features the familiar face of Ian Perkins, and they quickly burst into ‘A Wonderful Life’. After the song someone within the crowd responds by shouting “where is the checked shirt Brian” to which he responds with how he brought the polka dot shirt out especially for Manchester, one of the many exclusive treats he has up his sleeve for us. Next up on the setlist is the catchy ‘Rosemary’ and one of the brand new songs ‘Forget Me Not’ which goes down a treat.
