Shonen Knife On Sunday night I was pulled back in time, up into space, and transformed into an Osaka Ramone. Didn’t you go? Are you jealous? You should be! All three acts were excellent. They followed one another beautifully, but were diverse enough to give three wildly different experiences.

IDLES Luckily it wasn't a portent of doom that the evening commenced with the slogan 'Anger is an Energy' right before my peepers. Some hours later, Idles had done a striking job of recreating this refrain in aural form, and then some.

The Vaccines The Vaccines storm into Sheffield on the back of their 4th studio album ‘Combat Sports’, released just 2 weeks previously. It’s hard to pigeonhole The Vaccines. They’re not your standard indie rock outfit, for a start several songs have a definite 50s influence.

Girl Ray North London indie trio Girl Ray are still in the early stages of their career and in fact they were all just 19 when they recorded their debut album, ‘Earl Grey’. Amazingly for such a young band Girl Ray have already developed their own distinctive sound, distilled from a melting pot of very diverse influences and they’ve gained a lot of attention and radio play for their well-crafted songs and sincere live performances.

The Lurkers Although not as well known as many of the classic late 1970s punk outfits, The Lurkers produced some superb songs and have a high standing in punk mythology. Formed in 1976 the band recorded four sessions for John Peel and their debut single, ‘Shadow’, was number 12 in Peel’s 1977 ‘Festive Fifty’. Their album reputation was established by 1979’s ‘Fulham Fallout’, a collection of knockout songs including such gems as teenage anthem ‘I’m On Heat’.

Carl Craig Synthesizer Ensemble So, "who's Carl Craig?" I hear you ask. Heralding from Detroit, Carl Craig is a music producer, considered one of the most influential names of the Detroit techno scene. "And the synthesizer ensemble? Explain that one". OK. This one is going to take some more explaining... First off there's an album; Versus, which Carl Craig did in collaboration with Les Siècles Orchestra; a French orchestra and classical pianist Francesco Tristano (although tonight Kelvin Sholar took the piano), the progeny of a concert in 2008, it had the intention of bringing club music to classic concert halls. It was this album that tonight's setlist was from.

Greta Van Fleet It’s not every day you get to go see a band boldly dubbed “The Future of Rock ‘n Roll”. That’s quite a heavy load to bear for a foursome from Frankenmuth, Michigan, that are all under 21! Needless to say, I couldn’t wait to see Greta Van Fleet on Wednesday evening as they packed out the O2 Islington to over-capacity. The band has an immense hype build around them at the moment and getting a ticket to one of the two London shows were a hot commodity. The band consists of three brothers, lead singer, Josh Kiszka; his twin brother, Jake Kiszka on guitar; younger brother, Sam on bass and then Danny Wagner behind the drums.

Evanescence Six years after their last UK tour, Evanescence have returned with their newly released album Synthesis which features a combination of brand new material and some of their older classics (with a twist). Tonight the Manchester Apollo is buzzing with an unexpected and different vibe to your average 'rock' concert. The audience has matured somewhat, gone are the days of baggy jeans and chains, thrashing about a sweaty mosh pit, as tonight, people have traded that in for formal attire, ready for this seated only show.

Daphne & Celeste Ask a random in the street if they have heard of Daphne & Celeste and if they have, chances are that they will mention at least one of two things. One is for either of their two incredibly catchy bubblegum pop singles that landed in the UK charts near the millennium; the other is for a now legendary performance at the Reading festival that saw them pelted with bottles full of urine.
