Paul Heaton & Jacqui Abbott Striding onstage in his trademark parka jacket with drunken bellows of 'HEEEATON' ringing in his ears, it is clear from the off that the former frontman for the Housemartins and the Beautiful South means business.

Starsailor It’s a staggering 15 years since Starsailor’s second album ‘Silence Is Easy’ was released and to celebrate the band are out playing three anniversary gigs. Manchester is sandwiched between Glasgow and London. Those who own the album (and if you don’t then you really should) will know the part strings play throughout and so it is that the band are enhanced by a six piece string section for the three gigs.

Pip Blom Well, this place is a real surprise. If you were one to use generic stereotypes you would think you had hit Hipster central. In fact, this is just a really nice place that serves their own beer and happens to have the fabulous Pip Blom in the cellar. Not tied up down there, just playing their fabulous music. Yes, the Hyde Park Book Club does have books, but it also has a lot of music fans and I reckon tonight would be like the rest of their tour - SOLD OUT!

Deaf Havana I have to say, at the outset, that up until the week of this gig I have never listened to any output by the main band on this tour. They had been recommended to me by my stepson who is a big fan. So I gave them a listen and, apart from the early more screamy stuff I really quite liked them. So it was with a certain amount of anticipation that myself and said stepson turned up to Leeds Beckett for Deaf Havana.

Jake Bugg Setting a shed alight... a night at Doncaster Dome with Jake Bugg. Don’t worry, this is not about physically setting fire to the garden shed. It’s about music – and great music at that. As is often the case with venues today, Doncaster Dome is a bit of a shed... a nice shed with bars and toilets, but a shed never the less! Tonight however that shed was set alight and set alight in great style by not just one, but three class acts.
