Albert Hammond Jr Feel Good Indie Rock – Albert Hammond Jr offers some kind Strokes in Manchester. It’s a difficult job for a rhythm/lead guitarist from a highly successful worldwide band to make it as a solo artist. Like Carl Barat without his oppo in The Libertines, you are reduced to playing drastically smaller venues and releasing introspective, much more personal but probably less commercial albums, with various collective friends and acquaintances forming members of your live band.

Jonathan Wilson Six months after his last UK appearance, Jonathan Wilson is back in town with what looks to be a different band and an ever so slightly improved video backdrop. Three keyboardists are in the line-up including Drew Erickson who played with Wilson as part of Roger Waters’ touring band. Ny Oh’s backing vocals are a particularly welcome addition. The setlist is largely unchanged (notably ‘Dear Friend’ is substituted for ‘Moses Pain’) and focusses on his recent Rare Birds album.

Liam Gallagher It’s a mild evening in Manchester as Liam Gallagher played his biggest headline solo show to date with well over 50,000 packed into the cricket ground. Liam's Debut album ‘As You Were’ was only released 10 months ago and his popularity and resurgence has soared in that time. This also has a lot to do with nostalgia and the fact he was the frontman for the mighty Oasis and tonight’s setlist reflects his love for his former band.

Lucky Chops What we see before us tonight is a new band. A band changed not only by a difference in line up, but also generally in their attitude to what a live show can achieve. With no opening act, tonight is all about them.

Steve Winwood I declare I’ve been a big fan of Steve Winwood ever since Traffic’s appearance at Lancaster University in 1974. Yet tonight’s show is something of a mixed bag. Sat behind his Hammond Organ for the first three numbers it is clear that this ‘vintage’ seventy year old has lost none of his distinctive and distinguished vocal chops.

Kiefer Sutherland This is only my second time attending the Manchester Albert Hall but it certainly strikes me as a beautiful setting for tonight, the light from streaming through the windows which only amplifies the heat that is building in the venue. The crowd is full of mainly middle aged fans who have no doubt followed the career of this icon.

Rita Ora In the five short years since last touring the UK Rita Ora is back with a bang on her comeback 'Girls' tour. Whilst many will remember her wit and charisma on tv as a mentor on both The Voice and X Factor, the hiatus from touring has shown how much the international superstar has to offer, from modelling and designing a colourful Adidas collection, philanthropy work and being cast as Mia Grey in the 50 Shades films.
