John Grant I rock up to The Symphony Hall looking forward to seeing Susanne Sundfoer support the every charming John Grant. Unfortunately she has taken the night off to rest her voice and instead we are treated to Cate Le Bon. This welsh singer songwriter has an incredible band behind her, constantly changing instruments and creating an incredible sound. She has a beautiful and haunting voice that seems to capture those of us in the crowd who arrived early.

Moose Blood Pretty Tron lights charge up the stage to welcome Moose Blood before bathing them in hues of pink. Opening with ‘Talk in Your Sleep’ off their brand-new album ‘I Don’t Think I can Do This Anymore’ which was just released on 9th March. As soon as they blast into ‘Honey’ from 2016’s ‘Blush’ the crowd surfing begins in earnest to set the tone for the rest of the night before the place erupts at the opening bars of ‘Bukowski’ when Eddie’s vocals are lost to those of the crowd as a sea of eager faces experience their first ever gig.

The Front Bottoms The Front Bottoms take the stage in a misty orange glow surrounded by wafts of incense. Opening with ‘You used to say (Holy Fuck)’ – the opener from last year’s ‘Going Grey’, this slow build see the crowd swearing at the top of their lungs. As ‘Going Grey’ is the current album they’re touring its extended cover acts as the backdrop; presenting the crowd with a giant penis just behind front man Brian Sella’s shoulder.

Highly Suspect If you've not heard of Highly Suspect then in 2018 that's all going to change. The trio originally from Cape Cod, Massachusetts deal in the sort of rock that fits easily along side day time radio friendly pop yet often nips across the border into harder territory… Think Royal Blood and you won't be far off.

Hot Snakes There is only one band people are here to see and it's Hot Snakes. Formed in 1999 in San Deigo Hot Snakes play hard, fast and loud punk rock that at times has tinges of surf rock with slabs of swirling noise thrown in for good measure. Led by the formidable due of Rick Froberg and John Reis (the later better known as Speedo, the charismatic frontman of Rocket From the Crypt) the four piece hit the stage and audibly smash the Brighton crowd in the face.

The Bronx Welcome to an evening with Los angles finest, The Bronx. Now in their 15th year The Bronx deal in no nonsense dirty punk rock and roll, they play hard fast and tonight's sold out Mama Roux's crowd are here to bump heads and party hard. Having seen them several times tonight feels extra special as we were being treated to new album 'V' in its entirety. If I'm honest the new album is still growing on me so I was interested to see how it sounded live… I'm happy to report its sounds like a happy drunk dancing in the corner of a wedding with a little bit of gravy and sick on its shirt… Trust me thats a good thing.

Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes As is customary on ‘these types’ of evenings the ‘Facial Hair per attendee’ ratio was a good 30% higher than a normal gig. Yes ladies and gentlemen a certain Mr Frank Carter was in town with his Rattlesnakes to deliver their own unique brand of English hardcore punk. It was gonna be wild, gonna be raucous and gonna be a whole lot of fun.

Every Time I Die Every Time I Die need no introduction and have been smashing shows like this for nearly 20 years! Just let that sink in, 20 years and still more hungry and passionate than most new bands. Even in a cast Jordan Buckley flails around the stage like a man possessed. Brother Keith conducts the carnage and grins manically as he paces the stage. It was great to finally hear tracks from Low Teens in their natural environment and they sound magnificent.

Papa Roach It’s sometimes hard to believe how long Papa Roach have been together. Halfway through tonight’s show, lead singer Jacoby Shaddix points out they formed back in 1993 which makes half of the crowd feel very old and the other half realise they weren’t born at the time! They released their 9th album ‘Crooked Teeth’ a few months ago which has received great plaudits from critics and fans hailing it as their best work in a long time!

Touché Amoré Touché Amoré are in the business of misery. The band’s journey mirrors the life and times of lead singer, Jeremy Bolm, through his hyper confessional lyricism that sees their latest release ‘Stage Four’ echoing the grief of an age-old tale that’s constantly raw. ‘Stage Four’ is universally hailed as their best record, with a European tour pressing selling out before they embarked upon the UK leg; a quick, foiled outer sleeve pressing ltd to 175, was rushed through to be hand numbered by Jeremy. With 19 copies available each night the early birds caught the worm.
