Anna Calvi Anna Calvi is an artist who seemed to emerge fully-formed with her acclaimed debut album in 2011. Winning early endorsement from luminaries like Brian Eno and Bill Ryder-Jones, she played support gigs for the likes of Nick Cave and The Arctic Monkeys before she had even released an album. The debit album spectacularly demonstrated her abilities as a singer, songwriter and guitarist, as well as demonstrating a trend-setting grasp of style and presentation in the vein of early Roxy Music. Her third album, ‘Hunter’, was released in 2018.

Boat To Row The Castle and Falcon is undergoing something of a renaissance within the Birmingham music scene. Its industrial brick walled cavern of a gig room has played host to artists such as Cloud Nothings, Boy Azooga, Deap Vally and Yak, in the past year alone. The thought of heading down for my latest fix of music in one of Birmingham’s more intriguing venues really pulls me through an arduous day of work. Boat To Row will headline proceedings, with the undercard being Katherine Priddy and Faux Palms. I must say, I've not seen any of them live before but let’s see what I’m in for.

Graham Nash Opened in 1901 the Victoria Theatre provides a splendid venue for Graham Nash’s visit to Halifax. Now aged 77 years Nash’s trim figure and bone-white mop of hair puts all of his former collaborators and most of tonight’s audience to shame. He has aged well. More importantly the voice has barely changed… he hits the high notes on ‘A Day in the Life’ in a way that McCartney and Young can now only dream of.

The Cat Empire It's a lovely sunny day - leaving the beach - feeling in the mood for a bit of those Cat Empire vibes. Tonight they are playing at The Lemon Grove in Exeter, I'm looking forward to this gig for a couple of reasons, The first one being that The Cat Empire have a great reputation for their live shows and the second one being that the Lemon Grove is a tiny venue by TCE standards, so I was looking forward to seeing them in a smaller, more intimate room.

Doves After a 9 year hiatus that came at a time when the Manchester band had just achieved a seldom seen kid breakthrough of their own with Kingdom Of Rust, Jimi, Jez and Andy, aka Doves are back. Their show at Somerset House proved that the band have picked up exactly where they left off, and reminded us why they are one of the greatest British bands of modern times.

Jonathan Wilson Jonathan Wilson has not played here before but some of his pals have rightly endorsed the venue. Wilson is much smitten by the surrounding topography which he likens to his home in Topanga Canyon, Los Angeles, albeit without the bobcats, coyotes and mountain lions. There are plenty of sheep in Hebden Bridge as a consequence.

Garbage The last time I saw Garbage was in late 2015 at the O2 Academy Brixton during their 20 Years Queer tour and already then I remember being impressed by their loyal, die hard fans who follow them around the world no matter the distance.

Van Morrison What a wonderful night for a moon dance as Innervisions Festival 2019 drew to a close with the legend that is Van Morrison performing not one, but two sell out shows at Camden’s iconic Roundhouse venue. The Northern Irish crooner wowed the crowd as he performed with a full band and boy was he on rare form, treating the crowd to an hour and half stellar performance and I'm sure there was even a rare smile thrown in now and again from this megastar.

Rammstein I’m not exaggerating when I say that I have been waiting to see Rammstein for most of my life. It’s been right up there on my bucket list, probably somewhere between ‘Backpack through Italy’ and ‘Adopt a rescue piglet’. Tonight is finally the night. I’ve booked time off work. I’ve travelled for miles. I’ve agreed to stay at Bates Motel (all the regular hotels in the area were full, so my friends and I are at the most murdery place imaginable). It’s all about to be made worthwhile, and guess what? I’m gonna share my joy with you! You are one lucky bug.

The Who The greatest bands and musicians are slowly fading away and, being 20 years old, I’ll never be able to say I’ve seen many of the legendary rock bands to have ever lived because they’re either too old or dead by now. But after a trip to Wembley stadium one Saturday night in July, all of that changed with two legendary acts of the rock world taking over the stage.

Maceo Parker Red Hot Chilli Peppers, Ani DiFranco and Parliament are just some of the acts the incredible American saxophonist Maceo Parker has performed with. Having started his career with the Godfather of soul himself James Brown, Maceo's talent shone through leading the North Carolinian native to be hot property in the jazz industry. In the early millennium Maceo was one of the first wave of Prince's New Power Generation horn section having contributed to eight albums and performing in sell out shows such as the legendary 21 nights at London’s O2, so to see him return to the capital is a huge treat for this flexible musician.
