Hiss Golden Messenger Hiss Golden Messenger is the moniker for MC Taylor's Americana folk band and he has chosen to embark on this tour as a solo artist, nothing but guitars and humour to entertain. From the outset he lays down his intent with an emotionally wrenching acapella number that encapsulates the audience drawing them forward into his world and it becomes apparent that this will be one helluva set.

Transglobal Underground Firstly, what and who are Transglobal Underground? Well ‘TGU’ have been around since the early 1990s (first album ‘Dream of 100 Nations’); they are a ground-breaking band fusing dance music, reggae, Asian, middle-eastern and African music styles. In their extravagant shows they feature live percussion (lots of it) and other instruments like sitar, as well as using electronic sounds, beats and samples.

Airbourne Sometimes there are gigs that break from the norm - for me at least. For a long time we have “endured” the support band to get ourselves through to the main event and heck, so we should - support the upcoming acts most definitely, but tonight we are lucky, three great bands to watch. Should be great! We shall see...

Mac DeMarco An evening with Vernor Winfield McBriare Smith IV you say? I’m there! Tonight sees Vernor (the lesser-spotted Mac DeMarco to you guys) sojourn to Birmingham for the 1st time since his Institute gig in 2015 to proffer his jizz-jazz wears to us Midlanders…

Rex Orange County Two years ago I saw the incredibly talented Rex Orange County at the Peckham Liberal Club for the release of first studio album, Apricot Princess. The venue held just over a hundred people and the tickets only cost a tenner. When he walked onto the stage he gave a hint of a smile but it seemed there was a slight sense of nervousness to his being. After a few songs, he settled in when he realised that most of the people in his line of sight were friends from school and he played a very cool and calm show for us all.

Halestorm Of all the shows I’ve been to this year, this was one of the most enjoyable, and probably the most important.

Tokio Myers There is something totally rootsy about Tokio Myers. He’s appeared on large stages full of thousands of people, but you could just as easily imagine him busking alongside many of the talented musicians that line the streets & subways of central London. He’s classical, and yet urban all at once. He is the unexpected winner of 2017’s Britains Got Talent. But how so unexpected? Perhaps in the most part, due to how authentic he is as an artist - a self made musician and composer. Already forged from his own melting pot of rich experience - not that of any generic talent show format.

Yungblud MADNESS! I’m sure everyone expected this to be a wild party under the O2 Academy Brixton’s roof tonight and they were ready for it from before reaching the venue doors. I arrived a bit early only to find out that people waiting outside were already warming up their voices, singing along to choruses of both Yungblud and classic British tunes. You could easily forget all about the cold and rain outside, as their presence was fading away to the excitement and restlessness that were filling the air.

Pumarosa The wealth of options available to music lovers of Manchester on this particular Thursday night with the likes of Yonaka, Tokio Myers and Mancunian legends the Happy Mondays all playing within a ½ mile radius you’d be spoilt for choice if you wanted to see a gig. I opted for London based Pumarosa and boy was I glad I did.

McFly "I know what you’re thinking, McFly just got sexier" - Dougie Poynter McFly are back, people, and they are on fire! I’m not just referring to the pyrotechnics here, the pop-rock band made fan’s dreams come true by reuniting for an awesome ‘one night only’ gig at the O2 Arena in London on Wednesday night. The whole evening was filled with sing-your-heart-out classic tunes, such as ‘Obviously’ and ‘Star Girl’, bad jokes, "You wanna hear a joke? I’m a professional musician!" (by Dougie) and catchy new songs. It was everything you would want from McFly.

Mick Flannery On a rainy night in Islington, as another Irish singer-songwriter almost said, we go to church. Mick Flannery is in town. Mick is from Cork. Just like me. Mick has a beard. Just like me. Mick is one of our finest artists. Just like I once won a Bachelor of the Year competition.
