Neighbourhood Festival 2018 What better way to spend a Saturday than to run around Manchester’s music venues looking for your next favourite artist. My festival year always starts at Live at Leeds in May and then finishes here in Manchester at Neighbourhood Festival in October. Both of this year’s metropolitan day festivals have been superb, packed to the brim with fresh new talent and if you are prepared to stray away from the larger venues then there are some real goodies to be found amongst the also rans. Be prepared though for quite a trek to some of the places - walking from Albert Hall or Jimmys to the Academy is well over a mile, so I decided early on not to go to those extremes and stay in the nucleus of talent and go to the smaller venues that I hadn’t visited before.

Moseley Folk Festival 2018 The festival god's blessed the 13th Moseley Folk Festival with glorious sunshine for the whole three days, which is only fair and right seeing as how they damned Moseley’s sister festival, Lunar to a torrents of rain for much of that weekend. And no matter how much rain makes for the "proper" festival experience, being dry, warm to hot (possible for the last time this year), makes for a much more pleasant festival. So karma readdressed and lucky 13 for some and all, Moseley got under way on the afternoon of Friday 31st August.

Bingley Music Live 2018 After climbing an unreasonably large hill to arrive at the Bingley Music Live festival site, I emerged into the beautiful West Yorkshire sunshine just as the Lightning Seeds were closing out their set. Songs such as Life of Riley and Change provide a certain nostalgic satisfaction, but these tracks haven't aged particularly well, and the omission of Three Lions is keenly felt by all in attendance.

Y Not Festival 2018 After losing a battle with the Great British Summer™ in 2017, Y Not Festival rolled into 2018 with a main-stage line up so compellingly star-studded that it seemed like a shoe-in for redemption this time around. Reverend and the Makers, Razorlight, Manic Street Preachers, The Libertines, Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Kaiser Chiefs, The Wombats and Jamiroquai topped the billing, supported by a solid cast of acts across six stages and four days.

APE Presents Victoria Park is a place that the locals of the area visit for lovely runs, dog walks and picnic dates. It’s a truly tranquil and enjoyable place that people come to relax. So it would have been a bit of a shock for those on their daily dog walk to see their path cut short by the large installation that is All Points East. In the festival’s first year running, the opening weekend went down a storm. Today, Victoria park was jam packed full of festival goers ready to see the incredibly popular Catfish and the Bottlemen.

Arcadia Taking place within London’s iconic Olympic Park and designed to celebrate Arcadia’s tenth anniversary this two day, three staged festival offered an experience that can’t be found at any other. Arcadia has a trump card up its sleeve. Rather than sell itself on a long list of household names; the draw is in-fact something that you won’t be able to get at any other festival – a unique and attention grabbing stage that’s built to resemble a giant mechanized Spider that wouldn’t look out of place in the Terminator film franchise.
