Weyes Blood Weyes Blood (the working name of US singer, songwriter and musician Natalie Mering) released her fourth solo album ‘Titanic Rising’ to critical praise earlier this year. The lush album is superficially an easy listen, dominated by beautiful melodies and her languid golden voice, but underneath lie sober lyrics about the state of things and the human condition. Tonight at Manchester she plays to a sold-out Club Academy: back in 2007, she tells us, she first played in Manchester to just a handful of people.

Albert Hammond Jr Feel Good Indie Rock – Albert Hammond Jr offers some kind Strokes in Manchester. It’s a difficult job for a rhythm/lead guitarist from a highly successful worldwide band to make it as a solo artist. Like Carl Barat without his oppo in The Libertines, you are reduced to playing drastically smaller venues and releasing introspective, much more personal but probably less commercial albums, with various collective friends and acquaintances forming members of your live band.

Lucky Chops What we see before us tonight is a new band. A band changed not only by a difference in line up, but also generally in their attitude to what a live show can achieve. With no opening act, tonight is all about them.

Jonathan Davis More accustomed to playing arena shows, tonight the legendary frontman of Korn, Jonathan Davis, is getting a taste of his earlier days by playing to a crowd of less than 600 in the intimate Manchester Club Academy. Angel Olsen After the release of her second full-length album Burn Your Fire For No Witness in 2014 I was hooked by Angel Olsen enchanting vocals and grunge-folk sound. Yet, until hearing Olsen live at Club Academy in Manchester, I hadn’t picked up on the resounding country-folk palette of her voice. Her music, especially the 2016 album MY WOMAN encompasses a wide range of genres, of grunge-rock to folk, with electronic reverb. It is an album which cannot and perhaps should not be pinned down. It reminds audiences not to constrain an artist to a certain genre whilst lyrically reminding us not to constrain a woman to certain social expectations.

The Summer Set Ahh, The Summer Set. A band from Arizona who are apparently too pop for the punk kids but too punk for the pop kids. Where do they fit in? In Manchester it seems as tonight The Academy was packed with loyal supporters all eager to see a gig that may never have happened. After reportedly splitting last year, the band are now back together and looking stronger than ever after the release of their new album Stories For Monday.

Hinder Tonight's show has been a long time coming and one which needed to make a big impression. With a new album "When the smoke clears" and a new front man Marshal Dutton (after the departure of longtime vocalist Austin Winkler), Hinder have two points to prove tonight. Will their following remain loyal and is the new album to same Hinder standard which we all know and love?

Hardcore Superstar In January 2008 when Hardcore Superstar (HCSS) announced the departure of guitarist Thomas Silver and their new relationship with Nuclear Blast Records I really thought that was the end of the band as they were. However Crazy Lixx guitarist Vik  Zino slot straight in as a temporary measure and then soon became a permanent fixture within the group.
