bluedot-thumb bluedot Festival Set over three glorious summer days at Jodrell Bank, (the Cheshire observatory at the cutting edge of humanity’s quest for knowledge), bluedot is a brand new three-day festival of discovery that promised to fuse a complex mix of artists, speakers, scientists and performers into an event unlike any on earth which looks to inspire the scientists of the future.

Festival No. 6 My final festival of the summer neatly marks the change from Summer to Autumn. Back at Portmeirion for the fourth Festival No.6, and my third visit it this wonderfully eclectic festival set in a stunning backdrop. Portmeirion, a rich and colourful Italianate village designed by the late Architect, William Clough Ellis and built overlooking the River Dwryryd estuary was home to the 1960’s cult TV show “The Prisoner”, the lead character played by Patrick McGoohan who was the “No.6” that the festival references. Portmeirion was voted as the “Most Unique Venue” of all the UK festival sites and Lonely Planet has also recently included Portmeirion as one of the best 500 places to see on the planet. I for one, can’t argue with that particular accolade.

British Sea Power On the strength of both bands’ reputations for live performances, this evening’s British Sea Power and Bo Ningen gig at Manchester’s Ritz should be a dream pairing. Tonight BSP are performing one of only three UK gigs to celebrate the 12th anniversary of the release (and now the re-issue) of their debut album, ‘The Decline of British Sea Power’. A strange pairing it may be, but the uniquely British BSP are supported tonight by London-based Japanese acid-punk four-piece noiseniks Bo Ningen. However, although on the face of it the line up is chalk and cheese, both bands share a belief in experimentation and pushing forward the boundaries of their music.

Moseley Folk Festival 2013 Oh lordy, the OAPs are right you know. The older you get the faster the years fly by. It seems like only yesterday that we were singing along lustily to All Around My Hat (the degree of lustiness being in direct proportion to the quantity of cider consumed) and yet here we are again at another MoFo. I’m not complaining, it’s the bit between festivals that gets my goat... real life I think it’s called. Jolly silly idea.

British Sea Power British Sea Power are another of those bands (like I am Kloot, that I reviewed recently), who have been around a while, made several well-received albums and have a cult fan-base. Their strong following is evidenced by tonight's sold-out performance in Birmingham. Interest has also been bolstered by their brand new album, 'Machineries of Joy', which is one of their best. Whatever the views on their albums, BSP's gigs are renowned, with the band putting on spectacular, passionate shows that totally connect with their audience. So I am very much looking forward to this.
