Lissie After a foot-tappingly elongated wait at the bar for a pint of cider, U.S born Lissie entered the stage with guitarist Nick Tesoriero and forecast an alleviating cloud across the audience, kindling their gig spirits with track ‘Hero’ introducing her set.

Jack Garratt Not untypically, it was a dreary November evening in Brummieland as we ventured out to see Jack Garratt, with rain spitting down like flem dribbling from a Giant with a lisp. What wasn't at all typical was the sweltering 13 degrees that accompanied the rain. Anything to do with the 'Super Moon' per chance?

BAND NAME So, Gig Junkies make their now annual pilgrimage to Dublin to take in some splendid live music. Last year it was Sir Noel of Gallagher, this time round it was for more rock royalty in the guise of a certain Miles Kane and Alex Turner and their Last Shadow Puppets performing the last of 3 sold out gigs at one of Dublin’s original and most prestigious venues.

Brian Wilson It was the majestic surround of Birmingham’s Symphony Hall and the pure majesty of a certain Mr Brian Wilson of Beach Boys fame celebrating the 50 year anniversary of ground breaking album Pet Sounds that awaited us last night and to say there was a palpable excitement by all inside the impressive arena - many of whom were clad in Hawaiian Shirts and floral Leis in honour of the great man.

We Are Scientists Dynamic, New York based rock indie duo, We Are Scientists, enveloped Birmingham’s O2 Institute in an enigmatic sound unlike that of their former albums. New album release, Helter Seltzer, explores a fusion of electronic, punk and hard instrumental rock that has propelled them into a distinguished artist worthy of a venue much larger than the Institute's 2nd room.

Wolfmother Wolfmother made their way onto the stage at the rather early time of 8 bells to make sure they finished in time for another modern phenomena, the 10pm curfew. Not that it mattered a jot as the now packed out Rock City greeted the band noisily and enthusiastically.

Catfish and the Bottlemen So even though it’s the biggest venue in my home town (4000 capacity give or take) I’m not a huge fan of The Dome. It just seems the wrong shape and bands have often struggled with the sound there. It is after all a sports hall. I’ve seen Weller, Manics, Levellers, Faithless and The Beautiful South struggle there. The only band I’ve seen really nail it have been Kasabian. So given this was also my first time seeing Catfish and the Bottlemen stepping up to a larger room it promised to be an interesting evening.

Rudimental Blissfully unaware of Rudimental’s new album release, I felt somewhat ignorant turning up to Rock City as a follower of the band rather than a fanatic. Hitting the music scene in 2012 their drum’n’base rhythms remind me of my summer nights back at high school; times I cherish and was in hope of reliving at the gig.

Fun Lovin' Criminals Minus the element for the less than legal shenanigans, there aren’t many more fitting and descriptive band names than that of the Fun Lovin' Criminals. It’s been nigh on 20 years since I first witnessed Huey and the boys in all of their resplendent glory and now they were back in Brummyland, to treat the congregation to a complete play through of their inaugural album ‘Come Find Yourself’; a record that spent over 12 months in the charts and one that sold over 10 million copies. Boom!
