X Ambassadors X Ambassadors, an American rock band, consists of Sam Harris, the lead vocalist, his brother, Casey Harris on the keyboard, Noah Feldshuh as the lead guitarist and Adam Levin on the drum. I came across X Ambassadors through a TV series preview, 'Chicago PD' that used a catchy song, and the song just stuck in my head, and I knew I had to Google it up. It was 'Unsteady' and since then, I would always listen to X Ambassadors songs! And X Ambassadors to perform in London? Yes please, I need to attend this! And so, there I was, at ULU Live for X Ambassadors.

Named after the postcode of the South West of London that Clapham sits in, a two day festival, a stones throw from central London on Clapham Common, with some of the biggest names in dance music. King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard Earlier this year Stu Mackenzie of King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard announced that the band would be releasing as many as five new albums this year. At the time this may have seemed a rash hostage-to-fortune statement, but it’s now August and their third album of 2017 has just appeared. So they may still be on-target for five. How can they make all these albums in a year? Well, beside the fact that KGATLW are very industrious in terms of work ethic, the answer may be that, as they obviously don’t want to get typecast in terms of genre and style, they work through all sorts of experimental ideas and collaborations and quickly move on. In the future any attempt to do a KGATLW ‘best of’ selection is going to be a very tricky job, given the sheer breath of styles the band have taken in.

Aleem Chicago-born singer-songwriter Aleem returned to London after the European Tour with Fifth Harmony last October, performing songs from his previous singles at The Social. When I first listened to Aleem, I immediately became a fan! There's something about his voice, music and style that immediately steals your attention. Maybe his acoustic-guitar performance which had the Ed Sheeran vibes that made his music feels familiar yet different. I knew that I have to see him performing live!

Regina Spektor I’ve seen Regina Spektor play tiny venues, armed with just a piano, and a chair that she slapped for percussion on acapella tracks, but with the Symphony Hall comes drummer, keyboard and cellist. Strangely, no support for the Birmingham date at least (though I’m assuming it’s for the whole tour, as none has been advertised?) so I’d imagined an early curfew for once... But with a 24 song set, I was quite mistaken.

The Mekons The Mekons are a musical institution. Starting off as an arty punk band with attitude at Leeds University in the 1970s, they’ve evolved over the years as a politically and socially-aware collective of musicians expanding out of the punk genre into folk, country, dub and all sorts. They decamped to the USA in the 1990s and have, as they say, a large cult following including one Will Oldham (aka Bonnie Prince Billy). However, tonight we’re privileged to witness one of only a few reunion gigs being performed by the original 1977-9 line-up of drummer Jon Langford, guitarists Kevin Lycett and Tom Greenhalgh and singers Mark White and Andy Corrigan.

Live from Times Square Inner City music events seem to be de-rigeur for a lot of Britain’s cities and the ‘Toon is not one to be left out of a trend! This particular event was interestingly called “Live from Times Square” and although it was not the New York square made famous by New Year, it was certainly busy busy and eager with anticipation for the bands of the evening…. The Old Pink House, Dream Wife, Public Service Broadcasting, The Cribs and headliners the Manic Street Preachers - that and it was sold out and it was Saturday night in Newcastle which, if you don’t know, is always a damn good party.
