Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks Tonight many folk will have come to see Stephen Malkmus and The Jicks because of our hero being a one time member of legendary, laid-back, US indie band Pavement. The influence of Pavement on the music scene has been enormous. However, Malkmus has now made more albums solo or with The Jicks than he did with Pavement and his career has clearly moved on. Tonight’s gig at Nottingham is one of just five shows that the band are playing in the UK, on their current world tour.

Galtres Festival Galtres opened with Doncaster band and personal friends Bang Bang Romeo, their first performance on a main festival stage. No surprises in that they nailed it. Just a shame more people couldn't see them due to the site opening not long before they came on stage. I spoke to a few people that night who could hear the band from the queue and were gutted they didn't get to see them.

Anberlin In January 2014 Anberlin announced that they would be going there separate ways and recording their final album 'Lowborn'. There’s no doubt, the band who have had such a presence in the music scene for the past 12 years will be going out on a high note, with an album so impressive, it will be remembered for years to come along with their legacy. Tonight, here in Manchester they will be performing their 2nd date of their final UK tour here at the Manchester Club Academy along with support from Fort Hope and Natives.

Joan as Police Woman Joan Wasser’s post show musings on Facebook: “Holmfirth! The Picturedrome...your gorgeous town, stellar crowd and theater ceiling are magic. Thank you. Who knew?” Not enough people know about Joan As Police Woman, that is for sure. A small crowd - unusually seated - of around a couple of hundred are gathered to hear Joan (lead vocals, keyboards, guitar and violin), Matt Whyte (guitar), Eric Lane (keyboards) and Parker Kindred (drums). The band’s name, by the way, is inspired by the 1970s American TV show Police Woman which starred a similarly tough and sassy female lead.
