Gig Review and Photography by Kris Askey

Swim Deep

After almost 2 months since releasing their new single ‘To My Brother’ Swim Deep were gracing their home town with a packed out show at The Oobleck in The Custard Factory.

The Birmingham outfit gave the bursting Oobleck audience a short & sweet 9-song set offering a sweet ‘Honey’ taste of their journey since forming in 2010. Featuring songs like She Changes The Weather, King City, Francisco & Honey, the quartet delivered a performance to their adoring fans that they could remember & kick-start their Easter weekends with.

Austin Williams wasted no time in getting intimate with the Birmingham crowd as he leaned in and experienced the fans singing lyrics right back at him. Their fans were all over this gig since the beginning, even before Swim Deep arrived on stage there were excited teens on friends shoulders and screaming girls who just couldn’t control their excitement.

One thing that Swim Deep were not going to do was leave a part of the stage untouched, as they jumped, swayed, twisted and used every ounce of energy that they had to offer. This was the kind of gig that a photographer loves to capture, as the energy and movement caught inside a still frame perfectly shows the emotion these lads put into their performance.

Needless to say that closing the set with ‘To My Brother’ was nothing short of perfect to end the night on. Sealing the deal that Swim Deep are not a flash in the pan outfit from Birmingham, but a band dedicated to growing as musicians, a band, as well as crafting a sound that they can proudly call theirs.
