Steel Panther

“Look at all these beautiful people!” Bowling for Soup’s Jaret Riddick exclaimed, looking into the lycra filled, make up heavy and huge haired crowd waiting for the main attraction .”No one ever dresses up as us… it would be so easy just wear a cap and fat suit”.

Bowling For Soup

Bowling for Soups infectious sound and comedy lyrics made the perfect warm up for the UK leg of the Steel Panther tour as they bowled through an impressive setlist starting with ‘The Bitch Song’ before crowd favourite ‘High School Never Ends’, they had the 7,000 strong crowd jumping up and down waving their hands in the air. “The best thing about supporting Steel Panther is that girls get there titties out!” The Texan four piece shouted before Jaret apologised for bass player Chris staying up till 7am drinking whiskey. However, by the look of excitement on the fans faces, there was no need for apologies as a girl hoisted onto a guys shoulders lifted up her t-shirt to expose bare flesh. ‘Today Is Gonna Be A Great Day’ livened up those who had never heard of Bowling for Soup before as they announced the greatest cartoon theme ever to Disney’s Phineus and Ferb.

Covering Fountains of Wayne’s smash hit ‘Stacy’s Mom’ brought the start of a phenomenal climax from the warm up act. Advertising latest offering album ‘Drunk Dynasty’ and saying how they loved Birmingham and even invited Black Sabbath’s legend Ozzy Osbourne to the show but hadn’t heard back off him, Jaret cheekily quipping that he may have been busy with his other Maid.

The crowd went wild as Steel Panther’s frontman Michael Starr leapt straight into ‘Eyes of A Panther’ adorning skin tight leather, lycra and leopard print trousers with a spangly silver scarf draped from the microphone stand, it was obvious who the crowd were eager to see as Steel Panther rocked onto the stage, their heavy glam rock presence with Stixx on the drums and Lexxi Foxx pouting on the bass, checking his blonde hair was immaculate with the mirror he possessed, clad with purple and pink that matched his guitar while the talented lead guitarist Satchel rocked a green matching ensemble “me and Lexxi are matching our instruments today like twins” exclaimed Satchel.

Humorous hit after hit hounded the stage as the Los Angeles super band exhilarated the crowd with tongue in cheek ‘Just like Tiger Woods’ and ‘Party Like Tomorrow Is The End Of The World’ before slapstick ‘Asian Hooker’ echoed around the arena, crowd chanting along whilst male crowd surfers were being pulled from the crowd by security.

Michael and Satchel encourage the women in the crowd on to shoulders to lift up their tops, before boasting that last time they were in Birmingham they had eight girls in a night. One of the highlights of the night was when the band left a lone Satchel on the stage with a ten minute rousing guitar solo, which included the intro of Guns n’ Roses ‘Sweet Child’ before he climaxed with a drum finale. As the other members came back onto stage they invited on stage for a special treat, Bowling for Soup’s Jaret to help with a cover of ‘Youth Gone Wild’ by Skid Row. Satchel poked fun at the others by saying he preferred Jaret and maybe he should be Steel Panthers new lead front man for the next tour, flashing a cheeky look to the crowd.

As ’17 Girls In A Row’ started the band bit off slightly more than they could chew as around an extra twenty girls stormed onto the stage with the ones that were invited, as a wild party erupted, gyrating on the stage, twerking and causing mayhem as one girl climbed up to Stixx on drums for some deep tongue action. The girls gave it all they could as well as taking selfies and videos, whilst Satchel and Michael seemed to be revelling in the wild attention, whilst Lexxi was happily ensuring his makeup was on point not to be outdone by the lavish ladies, clad in leather hot-pants and spandex before a finale of ‘Death To All But Metal’.

The crowd cheered for more as the band reappeared joking “we usually take cocaine and stuff in that break, but it’s a hot curfew and we love you Birmingham, we’re gonna start a Monday night residency… we love you so much” as they belted into anthem ‘Party all day’.

Steel Panther

Birmingham ended Steel Panther’s UK tour for 2016 , however not ones to disappoint, they have promised to come back very soon.
