Pulled Apart By Horses

As I walked into the Institute well aware of whom Pulled Apart by Horses were, I was greeted with a sign politely stating “No Stage Diving” I found this a tad ironic with tonight’s visit of Yorkshire’s finest, ready to rip the place apart.

The Wolves

First on were local Thrash act Them Wolves who attempted to inflict wounds of sound similar to what a wolf’s lunge for the jugular would cause.

Menace Beach

Menace Beach stepped up next with a three guitar assault. Looking like a bizarre super group made up of members of Nirvana, My Bloody Valentine and The Proclaimers.

Enter Pulled Apart by Horses instantly sending the crowd into a rabid state with “Hot Squash”. The band currently touring new album ‘Blood’ are a breath of fresh air at times, with their stripped down heavy sound not relying on anything but pure passion and volume.  I can’t imagine many musical effects are present at these bands shows.

The band continued to steam roller the institute, front man Tom Hudson at times getting into the
crowd causing mass hysteria caused by the drug of old fashioned rock and roll. Despite a good reaction to the newer tracks it was the old guard that caused the crowd to jump around with as much energy as a 5 year old on a space hopper.

The crowd throughout screaming for “I Punched a Lion” With the bands response being, did you really? As the band reappeared for the encore they ended with what the crowd were baying for. My mind cast back to the sign at the entrance. Rules are there to be broken.
