John Grant

Here at GigJunkies we’re lucky-so-and-so’s as we go to some fantastic events and festivals. John Grant is just one of those events.

Since our review of the intimate Royal Shakespeare Company gig back in 22 June 2014, John has released his glorious “Grey Tickles, Black Pressure” album back in October 2015. Interestingly he touched upon the reason for the title explaining that “Grey Tickles” is a translation from Icelandic to describe entering middle-age, which is a lovely way to see it, far more cheeky and certainly in John’s style.  “Black Pressure” was also mentioned as being Turkish for “nightmare”, which was quite the opposite from tonight, as it was a dream.

Also noticed attending the event this evening was Jimi Goodwin (doves) who we’d hoped would again perform a rendition of “Glacier” with John as they had during their recent 6Music 2016 Festival appearance earlier this year, but alas that wasn’t to be tonight. One hopes that Jimi enjoyed the show as much as the crowd did, as song after song was received with great applause from the packed-floor at the O2 Institute, heralding another triumphant return to the Midlands of one of the America’s best artists.

Anyway enough chatter from me as I’d prefer to show you what I saw… I just wish you could have all heard John Grant and his fantastic support act Meilyr Jones too, they were fantastic!
