Lissie

Having seen Lissie at V Festival earlier in the year, I was really excited about the prospect of seeing her at the Academy 2 on Sunday night. She’s hot, vocally superb and the purveyor of some classic folk rock tunes. What more could a man want?

Ramona

Support came in the guise of another blonde haired beauty and her side kicks in the form of Romona. Unsigned, these guys are raw, but boy do they have something. From the minute they hit the stage, with their driving basslines and meaty guitar riffs, they treated the crowd to one catchy number after another, including a fantastic rocking cover of ‘Remember me, I’m the one who had your baby’s eyes’.
Keep your eye out for these guys…

Ramona

Lissie. Ahhhhh lovely Lissie, or as she’s more formally known Elisabeth Maurus. You can’t help but like the girl from Illinois, with her flowing blonde hair and inviting smile, It helps that she’s got an array of absolute belting tunes too!

Lissie

“Happy Halloween” Lissie greeted the eclectic crowd who ranged from Radio 2 oldies, through to lip pierced Kerrangies as she opened with ‘Here Before’ – a melodic slow burner which from her 2009 EP ‘Why are you Runnin?”. Smashing.

Lissie

Stand out tune from her debut album Catching a Tiger, ‘When I’m Alone’, came early on in the set, much to the delight of the partisan crowd. Lissie is one of those singers who’s live performance vastly outshines that of her recorded work and nowhere is this more evident than with this tune. An absolute cracker which deserves so much more airtime and recognition than it actually got.

Lissie

Added entertainment came in the form of Mr “Pursuit of Happiness” – the only man I know to insist on a song being played by an artist (time after time) and actually having their wish granted with a smile. Much respect Sir.

Lissie

As she downed her tequila – courtousy of a nice couple on the front row – she belted out ‘In Sleep’ reminiscent of a young Stevie Nicks, aided and abetted by her superb lead guitarist, together with Brummy drummer who was evidently buzzing from playing such a big gig in his home town.

And then that was it, a feel good gig enjoyed to a man. If you’ve not seen Lissie, then you really need to, or at very least check out her work. Trust me, you won’t be disappointed.
