You wanted the best you got the best… the hottest band in the world… KIISSSSSSSSSS!

For forty something years the American quartet KISS have jetted around the world unleashing their own brand of fire laden glam rock to the masses and tonight the ‘End of the Road’ farewell tour exploded its way into Birmingham Arena.

You don’t go to a KISS gig for the musicianship or the subtlety, from the get go it’s fire and explosions as our face painted rock gods float down from the ceiling. It’s a captivating site to see the teetering Gene Simmons (nearly 70 years old!) next to the cock sure strut of Paul Stanley who clearly has the greatest rock star walk ever!

We get all the hits and we also get Simmons wiggly tongue during ‘Lick it Up’, rivers of blood during ‘God of Thunder’ and don’t forget the fire breathing during ‘War Machine’. Not to be out done Paul Stanley soars like an eagle (literally) for the wonderful ‘I Was Made for Loving You’ and proceeds to camp it up on his own little platform in the middle of the devoted Kiss Army.

However it’s the finale where everything is thrown into the mix – hydraulic platforms, indoor fireworks, ticker tape, confetti canons and more bangs than a celebrity sex tape light up the arena whilst the band smash out ‘Crazy, Crazy Nights’ and ‘Rock and Roll All Night’. It’s big, it’s dumb and by god it’s soooo much fun…

This isn’t a gig it’s a little slice of Vegas nonsense which requires zero thought and in this day and age who doesn’t want to forget about all the nonsense happening around the world. Considering they have been on a farewell tour for about twenty years I wouldn’t be surprised if they pop up again and I for one will be down the front, drunk, sweaty and covered in confetti.
