American Prog-rock band, Coheed and Cambria recently released their ninth studio album, Vaxis Act 1: The Unheavenly Creatures album and is currently on a tour to support it. I was lucky enough to catch them a second time in just over a year at Roundhouse in London on Tuesday.

The venue was already filled up when I arrived, and the night was kicked off by Chon, an instrumental band from California. Although being a supporting band, Coheed fans responded very positively and was a great pairing and start to the night.

At 9pm Coheed came on stage to deafening cheers, and following a Prologue kicked off with ‘Dark Sentencer’ from ‘Vaxis Axt 1: The Unheavenly Creatures’. Even being a brand-new song, diehard fans were singing along to every word. They went straight into ‘Here We Are Juggernaut’ is the first single from their album ‘Year of the Black Rainbow’. Following, front-’mane’ (pun intended) and guitarist Claudio Sanchez greeted London and blasted off with fan favourite ‘Devil in Jersey City’. A significant portion of their set consisted of their album, In Keeping Secrets of Silent Earth: 3’.

I’ve said it before, Coheed and Cambria is a power-house of a band that never disappoints. Not much more can be said. They performed to a light show that created ambience and supported the energy of the group. Sanchez is a genius on guitar, and he proves this on a variety of ‘em. Worth mentioning is the passion and animation Josh Eppard beats those drums. It’s not often that the drummer commands that much attention.

They ended this memorable night with ‘Welcome Home’ released on September 20, 2005, from their third track on the album, Good Apollo, I’m Burning Star IV, Volume One: From Fear Through the Eyes of Madness.

The set list consisted of a Prologue, thirteen songs and an encore.

The fans loved it, I loved it. Thoroughly enjoyable set and a great night out.
