The Internet It seems like a lifetime ago since the endless hype around the infamous rap collective Odd Future was in full force. Over the past few years it’s been fascinating to see its members mature and leave a lasting impact on the music scene. But tonight at the O2 institute it was all about The Internet.

Nao I’ve genuinely never heard a crowd response as loud as the one Nao got at Albert Hall in Manchester. You’d have thought it was a hometown show for the Nottingham born singer. She was clearly taken aback herself too but was completely deserving of the hysteria. She matched the energy and intensity of the audience throughout, making for an incredible night.

St. Paul & The Broken Bones Birmingham Alabama Soul comes to Leeds and Saint Paul Janeway preaches to the converted. St. Paul & The Broken Bones live at the Irish Centre. This gig was supposed to be at The Brudenell, then I saw it advertised as the O2 Academy, eventually we are advised that it has been moved to the Irish Centre, which is exactly where I saw St Paul & the Broken Bones 2 years ago. Inside, this place resembles a large working men’s club with two levels and a handful of seats spread along the walls. It probably hasn’t changed much in 30 years and tonight it will play host to some slick blues and funky soul, some of the best and authentic southern American soul you will see this side of Otis Redding.

Leon Bridges On this most special of days, 100 years on, the country, festooned in poppies and everyone remembering those who had gone before us, it was fitting to see such a special artist as Mr Leon Bridges at Birmingham's Institute.

Curtis Harding It was after a hellish 16 hour long coach trip to Paris when I discovered Curtis Harding. Tired and weary from making the trek to see Lenny Kravitz in the summer, before he announced the UK leg and I thought was my last chance to see him I threw heck to the wind and purchased tickets without regard to travel arrangements or how I'd feel when I already a heavy week of gigs booked in. However Lenny’s support was a ray of sunshine that woke me up instantly, his catchy lyrics and stage presence immediately caught my attention and the short set that won the audience over left me eager to listen to more of this talented young man and his band.

Alexander O'Neal As an 80’s baby growing up amongst the bright neon lights, catchy melodies and awesome anthems were the soundtrack to my childhood. As I neared adulthood the buzz of nostalgia filled, as the last Thursday of the month was 80’s night at Rosie’s in Solihull. 17 year old me snook into the club to party to the sounds I was born into with my group of college friends we used to always love nagging the DJ to play ‘Criticize’ and then belted it out to the boys who broke our hearts on the dance floor, so it was pretty apt my last night as a 35 year old was spent with the 80’s icon Alexander O'Neal.

Tom Grennan It seems like he’s been around for ages but 23 year old Tom Grennan arrived on the scene a little over 2 years ago with his first single ‘Something In The Water’ back in July 2016. Since then he has released a steady stream of singles and EP’s and has built up large and loyal fan base. Initially an acoustic guitarist he has now become an accomplished frontman delivering an Indie/Alt rock sound, and his current tour is to promote his debut album ‘Lighting Matches’ which was released in July of this year.

Graham Parker Tonight it is the turn of Graham Parker who last played the venue in 2015 and he clearly likes the place. Essentially a singer-songwriter GP emerged in the mid-seventies, along with class mates Elvis Costello and Nick Lowe, to great critical acclaim and went onto record over twenty studio albums. Distilling that down into tonight’s set list is no easy task and cherries like ‘Don’t Ask Me Questions’, ‘You Can’t Be Too Strong’ and ‘Passion is No Ordinary Word’ don’t get picked.

Janelle Monáe It's possible to say the crowd that were going wild, hearing hit after hit from Janelle Monáe at the Academy, however, I feel that would be a discredit to this icon. Manchester saw how much more this icon gives in terms of music bringing anthems of honesty, rebellion and love, lifting up the crowd with her immense stage presence and colourful emotive pictures.

Innervisions Festival: George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic London has been treated to an array of talented and legendary musicians over the past week of Innervisions Festival and tonight at Camden's iconic Roundhouse venue was no different. As icons go, this show was heavyweight, to add to the fact it was sadly announced the 76 year old Godfather of Funk would be retiring in 2019, this made the show even more special considering it had a good chance of being his last in the UK, taking into consideration all that, London was in for a treat as George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic came into town.
