The World Of Hans Zimmer Film scores. We can be forgiven for forgetting to check the credits for the composer at the end of a brilliant film. The very best are so seamlessly put together with film, that they are an integral part of the process. Ever since the very beginning of movie making, with the advent of silent films, film scores have played a very important role in eliciting profound emotions in movie goers.

Evanescence Six years after their last UK tour, Evanescence have returned with their newly released album Synthesis which features a combination of brand new material and some of their older classics (with a twist). Tonight the Manchester Apollo is buzzing with an unexpected and different vibe to your average 'rock' concert. The audience has matured somewhat, gone are the days of baggy jeans and chains, thrashing about a sweaty mosh pit, as tonight, people have traded that in for formal attire, ready for this seated only show.

John Grant Having last toured the UK in 2013 in support of the distinctly electro flavoured Pale Green Ghosts album Grant’s back this time with a modest, ahem, 34 piece orchestra in tow. It makes sense though given the lushness of that voice and the soaring songs (many of which focus on Grant’s struggles to come to terms with himself, his life and his loves) that practically cry out for the gravitas that only a full fat orchestra can really deliver. The venue’s pretty perfect too, Brum’s grand old Town Hall, a Victorian Grade I listed building that’s seen everyone from Charles Dickens to Black Sabbath do their thang (although sadly not on the same night).

ABC Ahhhhh the 80s...was there ever a better era in pop? Nope, I don’t think there was. Take 1982 for instance, the year that ABC’s The Lexicon Of Love was originally issued. Number one singles included (deep breath) Don’t You Want Me (The Human League), The Model (Kraftwerk), Town Called Malice (The Jam), House of Fun (Madness), Come On Eileen (Dexys Midnight Runners), Eye Of The Tiger (Survivor), Pass The Dutchie (Musical Youth) and Do You Really Want To Hurt Me (Culture Club). Seriously...now that’s what I call (pop) music. Incidentally (and somewhat incredibly) ABC’s The Look Of Love was only the 32nd highest selling single that year, sandwiched between OMD’s Maid of Orleans and...er...Chas and Dave’s Ain’t No Pleasing You.

Live Transmission - Joy Division Reworked Joy Division were around for a tiny snapshot in time. Formed in ’76 they pioneered the post-punk indie sound that subsequently inspired so many. Their debut album, ‘Unknown Pleasures’ drew critical massive acclaim. But lead singer Ian Curtis was beset with depression and illness beyond other personal difficulties. In 1980, aged just 23, he tragically committed suicide. So tonight’s reworking of everything Joy Division comes 33 years after his untimely death. Live Transmission, we are assured, is an immersive, cacophony of orchestra meets interactive plays homage to a truly unique period in music.
