Interview with The Joy Formidable Entering the reasonably salubrious surroundings of the Academy 3 dressing rooms we’re met by two thirds of The Joy Formidable. Lead singer Ritzy’s curled up demolishing a pot of hummus and packet of pitta bread and co-vocalist and guitarist Rhydian’s sipping a beer.  Drummer Matt joins us, wrapping bits of tape around what’s left of his fingers and we’re all set for a delightfully ramshackle interview (you can blame me for that...I’m no Alan Carr...I might look a little like him and I’m as camp as tits but that’s as far the comparison stretches). We start off by randomly discussing such pressing matters as floating poo, Rhyl, flatmates and Walsall before I remembered what we were there for and actually got my scrappy list of questions out.

Interview with Tim Nordwind from OK Go, Birmingham, UK - 12/01/2010 This is the interview that almost didn’t happen. GigJunkies photographer Wayne Fox was having car trouble and only at the death did the garage give it a clean bill of health. I happened to be battling my way through road closures, snow and typical winter traffic on my way down from York. Worst of all though Damian Kulash – Lead Singer and Lead Guitarist was pronounced unexplainably ill upon our fortunately early arrival. Nobody seemed to know quite what was wrong with him (there was even talk he may be pregnant) – Whether Damian would be fit enough to even do the show was uncertain. Fortunately, bands do interviews as a duo. Damian may have been too ill to talk but it didn’t stop Tim Nordwind taking to the stage and battling along solo.

Sweethead “Being sober hurts so bad, being drunk is fun. Being hung over can be painful; being sober can be painful too. Crammed in a van with 5 other guys can be painful. Being treated like the Evil Stepmother” As opening introductions go, that statement by Serrina Sims pretty much sums up what it must be like touring with and opening for ‘Them Crooked Vultures’. Moving from one location to another, having to drink and party with the likes of Troy Van Leeuwen, Josh Homme and Dave Grohl on a daily basis must be gruelling work any time of the day or night. Or as Norm would say “Living The Dream, LTD unlimited baby”. Sweethead is the brainchild of Queens of the Stone Age Troy Van Leeuwen on Guitar, alongside members of Mark Lanegan band; Eddi Nappi on Bass and Norm Block on Drums. Rounding them out is Rock and Rolls latest pin up temptress; Serrina Sims.

Jersey Budd Conducting interviews wasn’t really the key criteria when we launched Gig Junkies. Instead, we set out to review all of the top gigs up and down the country. However, when the opportunity came up to interview young starlet Jersey Budd, we jumped at the chance. Were we scared (ish)? Nervous? (A little) Awestruck? (Possibly). When Jersey arrived it quickly became apparent that we needn’t have had any fears or trepidations. Jersey Budd is a REALLY decent bloke. Top fella. No pretence, no arrogance, just a salt of the earth ex Plumber who happens to be a pretty tasty singer. It also became evident that this wasn’t going to be your run of the mill interview. Phew! It was more of a chin wag between old mates about music, footy, marriage and his of course gigging.
