Bastille Bastille have plucked at the heart strings of fans since 2010. An amalgamation of their captivating sound, moving lyrics and charismatic presence make them easy to love. Their mix of experimental mash-ups, rock textures and dance rhythms mixed with Dan’s blissfully choral voice make them one of the most dynamic Indi-pop bands around. Bastille have put on the most incredible performances in the past, but on Saturday night Bastille stepped it up a level as they performed the penultimate date of the UK leg of their ‘Still Avoiding Tomorrow Tour’ at the iconic O2 Academy in Brixton.

Florence + the Machine This being the High as Hope Tour, it’s only fitting that Florence + the Machine open the show with the opening track from the latest album of the same name. ‘June’ is strange, beautiful, and builds up into an epic crescendo as she repeatedly wails “I’m so high, I can see an angel!” in her signature falsetto. Our star is the last of her ensemble to make her way down the illuminated staircase on stage, with her musicians receiving a huge ovation as they shuffle onto the stage before her. Stepping quite literally into the spotlight, this sermon is underway.

Tom Walker From the moment a sunbeam of light immersed the stage; Scottish singer-songwriter Tom Walker was greeted with applauds from an army of fans at Birmingham’s O2 Institute. As if filtered through the trees of the Scottish Highlands, or even making reference to two hit songs Leave A Light On and Angels, his entrance was demonstrative of a cycle of lyrics that would set the scene for the rest of the evening, meaningful, emotional and down-right relatable.
