Wand A week ago I hadn’t heard of Wand. Then they were in session on Marc Riley’s Radio 6 programme. I was impressed and then, checking them out, I found they were appearing at the Brudenell a matter of days later as part of a short UK tour. So then it was frantic efforts to get along to Leeds.

The Libertines The Libertines rocked into Birmingham Barclaycard arena as if it was no different from any of the smaller venues they had previously played, performing with the energy that was longed for during the ten years that passed before 'Anthems for Doomed Youth' emerged onto the scene late last year.

Albert Hammond Jr t’s becoming a regular treat to see musical heroes and icons playing at my local pub the Hare & Hounds. The venue has gone from strength to strength over the past ten years producing a wide and varied music programme to suit all adult tastes. It makes sense then that Albert Hammond Jr, guitarist of THE coolest band of the past 20 years, The Strokes, would make a stop here on his solo headline tour.

Ty Segall Like Jack White, Ty Segall is one of a new breed of young musicians who have real talent, as well as charisma, who take the trouble to learn from listening to the rich musical heritage of rock and seem to develop loads of ideas and a real sense of direction as to where they want to be. Still only 27 and with umpteen solo albums / other band collaborations already behind him, Segall is back in the UK playing sold out gigs based around his latest album, ‘Manipulator’.

Band of Skulls Southampton's alt-rock trio Band of Skulls took to the blue lit stage, guitars in hand, with the female vocalist (Emma Richardson) stood on one side of the stage, drummer (Matt Hayward) middle back and the male vocalist (Russell Marsden) stood directly opposite. As a band I’m not too familiar with, this staging proved they needed little to take control of the venue with their powerful sound.

The Horrors The Horrors have recently released their fourth album, ‘Luminous’, having made their name with their own brand of krautrock influenced indie-goth-garage-psychedelia. So we expect a pretty spaced-out evening, with mind-bending, swirling, trancey guitar (from Joshua Hayward) and synthesizer (from Tom Cowan), presided over centre-stage by the tall and lean, spikey-haired, black-clad figure of lead singer Faris Badwan, with his distinctive deep, dead-pan, vocals. And this is what we get.

The Libertines So to the noughties band that were hey, a tad naughty. Critical acclaim took these indie-punks to the edge of the world, more than quite literally. As their star began to shine, these guys bickered and argued, one becoming the tabloid’s car crash of dream ticket as he fell into a drug oblivion.  So it is more than quite remarkable that these guys have survived to 2014, dabbling with Hyde Park over the summer and now to a trio of dates at the Ally Pally. Welcome tonight to the band who few predicted would have made it this far - welcome indeed to The Libertines.

White Denim White Denim may not be ‘sassy’ and I’m not convinced they bring a ‘cool trash aesthetic’ either but one thing they do do (not dodo, that’s just a big extinct bird...) is...pause for dramatic effect...ROCK. Hell yeah! Ahem. In fact within just a couple of seconds of opening track Pretty Green they’d managed to blow a transformer. Now that’s ROCK.
