Cross The Tracks Recent years have seen festivals falling by the by and the big-name players even reducing schedules and missing out years. The team behind Cross The Tracks did an amazing job as they celebrated the opening year of Brixton's first funk, soul and jazz festival. As the crowds descended on the inner city's Brockwell Park, it was refreshing to see communities bonding, all ages and races excitedly arriving at the park as the sun shone through overcoming the predicted bad weather.

All Points East On a slightly rainy day in London, the only glimmer of fresh summer vibes came from Victoria Park and All Points East as the first weekend came to a close. But before that time could come, a whole collection of sounds bursted out of the five stages with plenty of exciting artists displaying their work to the masses.

APE 25/5/2019 Welcoming in the the first weekend of the All Points East Festival at Victoria Park. The second day saw The Strokes headlining with other brilliant performances by The Raconteurs, Johnny Marr, Courtney Barnett, Jarvis Cocker, Interpol, Anna Calvi and many others. There was a terrific vibe among the crowd with this being the start of the heatwave in London (according to the weather people but you never know with British weather). Gig Junkies’ photographer Bimal was there to capture the magic.

HRH Metal 2019 Once upon a time, there was a young writer who found herself presented with the opportunity to review a music festival. But ah! This wasn’t just any festival. This was HRH Metal 2018, and a more magical experience the writer couldn’t possibly have imagined. Sadly the spell only lasted for one weekend, and she had to leave the enchanted world before the O2 Academy turned back into a pumpkin. Or something like that. Many moons she waited for the festival to return. At last, her patience is about to be rewarded. Take her hand and walk with her into the mystical depths of the metalhead Heaven which is Hard Rock Hell. (It’s me, by the way. The writer is me. ‘Sup.)

Rockaway Beach 2019 Once upon a time there was a firm belief that music festivals should only take place during the summer months and which should also entail several nights camping. The annual Rockaway Beach festival offers a festival experience but without a portaloo ever coming into your vision.

Neighbourhood Festival 2018 What better way to spend a Saturday than to run around Manchester’s music venues looking for your next favourite artist. My festival year always starts at Live at Leeds in May and then finishes here in Manchester at Neighbourhood Festival in October. Both of this year’s metropolitan day festivals have been superb, packed to the brim with fresh new talent and if you are prepared to stray away from the larger venues then there are some real goodies to be found amongst the also rans. Be prepared though for quite a trek to some of the places - walking from Albert Hall or Jimmys to the Academy is well over a mile, so I decided early on not to go to those extremes and stay in the nucleus of talent and go to the smaller venues that I hadn’t visited before.

Moseley Folk Festival 2018 The festival god's blessed the 13th Moseley Folk Festival with glorious sunshine for the whole three days, which is only fair and right seeing as how they damned Moseley’s sister festival, Lunar to a torrents of rain for much of that weekend. And no matter how much rain makes for the "proper" festival experience, being dry, warm to hot (possible for the last time this year), makes for a much more pleasant festival. So karma readdressed and lucky 13 for some and all, Moseley got under way on the afternoon of Friday 31st August.

Boasting some of the biggest names in British rock and pop from the last 30 years, the Cool Britannia Festival was a three-day event held at legendary venue Knebworth Park in Hertfordshire from Friday, 31st August (though the opening day showcased slightly lesser-known acts) to Sunday, 2nd September.

Bingley Music Live 2018 After climbing an unreasonably large hill to arrive at the Bingley Music Live festival site, I emerged into the beautiful West Yorkshire sunshine just as the Lightning Seeds were closing out their set. Songs such as Life of Riley and Change provide a certain nostalgic satisfaction, but these tracks haven't aged particularly well, and the omission of Three Lions is keenly felt by all in attendance.
