Manic Street Preachers It seems almost a cliche at this point for artists to play older albums in full, relying on nostalgia to bring in the audience for a quick cash grab. However that’s not always the case, some do it for the right reasons, making it a celebration for themselves and the fans. The best example of this at the moment is the Manic Street Preachers, who over the past few years have been playing a slew of excellent 20th anniversary shows of their 90’s albums.

Richard Ashcroft As most people know, Wigan is best known for three things, Northern Soul, Pies and The Verve. Tonight we are at the Dome in Doncaster to witness the lead singer of the latter of the three doing his thang! The first would have been OK, but Pies, - heck no thanks! (Well not tonight anyway).

Idlewild Before tonight's gig to promote their new album 'Interview Music', if anyone had asked me how long headline act Idlewild had been performing, I would have never have said that they started in 1995. 24-years has rocketed by for me, but for them they appear to be very fresh indeed.  In fact, if we take a moment to reflect on their careers: starting about the same time as Coldplay, the whole music scene itself feels as though it has slowly but surely moved away from Coldplay's more relaxed style, to where Idlewild have been "at" for all their career.

Suede When David Bowie passed away in 2016 I vowed I’d never again miss the opportunity to see a band I loved, when the opportunity presented itself. So I took the grey and long road from Birmingham to Leeds on a Wednesday night to see one of my favourite all time bands, Suede.

Ocean Colour Scene A rainy Wednesday night saw the Ocean Colour Scene and Martha Reeves and the Vandellas provide Christmas cheer on their tour which is covering all points of the UK. A few people had wondered why a Motown legend was on the same bill as a band that were in the vanguard of the Britpop era of the late 90’s. But I have to say that it was a glorious clash of musical styles that worked a treat, and was well received by the large crowd in Leeds.

Ash Northern Irish rockers Ash were greeted by a packed crowd as they took to the stage of Bristol's hottest new music venue on Friday 19th October. The trio screamed – sometimes literally! – through a 20+ song set at SWX to promote their latest album Islands, released back in May.

Ocean Colour Scene The Leadmill in Sheffield is undoubtedly the city's most iconic venue. A blazing hot weekend in August has seen the Leadmill host a trio of massive outdoor gigs at the Don Valley Bowl, just outside of the city centre. I arrived on the Sunday for the third of these shows with a song in my heart and a few extra pounds round my waist. It has been a summer of indulgence...

DMA'S Although I struggle with the fact that the Aussies have pretty much dominated The Ashes during my adult years I’m more than happy to concede that the Britpop Revivalist movement is being firmly led by three lads from down under. Made up from the remnants of previous band DMA'S are a Sydney three piece consisting of Johnny Took, Thomas O’Dell and Matt Mason. Debut album, the exceptional ‘Hills End’, landed on these shores in February 2016 to wide critical acclaim and several Oasis comparisons.

The Bluetones The Bluetones are one of those bands that seem to have been around forever. I remember first seeing them in the 90’s and I have had sporadic dalliances with them ever since. Tonight I am not alone in my admiration for this group of west of London musicians as the Plug in Sheffield is full and bouncing.

Embrace Having liked Embrace for over 20 years and only having seen them a handful of times I was more than a little excited. The older clientele in attendance would suggest that I wasn't alone in my 20 year love affair with the Leeds band, and based on the crowd’s reaction it wasn’t the first time many of them had seen them.

The Divine Comedy A cold and windy November evening in Leeds saw a welcome return of The Divine Comedy, a great British band fronted by their founder Neil Hannon. Many people have said that their best days are behind them, but if last night’s performance was anything to go by, they couldn’t be more wrong.
