Pearl Jam What do you get when you see a band like Pearl Jam two nights running? Well, normally you’d get two pretty much completely unique and different set lists, a sore throat from singing along like you were 18 again and a euphoric feeling that turns you into one giant goose bump.

The Psychedelic Furs It’s a balmy Friday and the South Bank is packed full of tourists watching buskers do Ed Sheeran covers. Meanwhile, over at the Southbank Centre, The Cure’s Robert Smith has curated something a little different to that for this year’s Meltdown Festival. The lineup boasts a wealth of bands, including Nine Inch Nails, Placebo, Death Cab For Cutie and Deftones- yes, as you can see, Robert Smith is bravely giving male musicians the increased platform they clearly need- as well as tonight’s act, The Psychedelic Furs.

The Breeders There is something just undeniably cool about The Breeders. I’m not happy with that word ‘cool’ in there. It’s not a word I use. Ever. But I’m going to allow it this once. The Breeders are a band every aspiring musician should want to be in. That has to be cool surely? I mean, this is rock royalty up on that stage. I digress.

James Halifax, a town famous for Cat’s Eyes (the reflecting studs on the road that keep you safe), chocolate and banking has a rich musical history, but of late the calibre of acts playing here has had a bit of a boom with the Stone Roses, Kasabian and Florence + the Machine having all played at the Victoria Theatre recently. Tonight it was the turn of Mancunian legends James to bring their unique show to the beautiful venue tonight.

Frank Turner In a packed out Camden Roundhouse, just under 2,000 fans eagerly anticipated the grand entry of the greatest showman that is Frank Turner. And his entry is certainly epic as his band mate trips him over whilst running onto the stage, falling flat on his face. An extremely embarrassed Frank Turner curses and laughs at guitarist Ben Lloyd as he continues to start the show with the energetic and upbeat ‘1933’.

Nap Eyes There is a short change over time before Nap Eyes take to the stage. I was fortunate enough to catch the Nova Scotian quartet at last year’s Moseley Folk Festival which led me to seek them out on their return to King's Heath. They open up the set with Judgement taken from the latest album, I’m Bad Now, with their usual laid back ease and understated approach to music making.

Gomez Gomez emerge from the stage door to a massive cheer from this patient crowd, the opening synth sound of ‘Get Miles’ fills the room and we are off. The album will be played live in full, and in the same listing order, exactly how it should be. No major deviation or changing of styles, this is a perfect rendition sent to awaken your nostalgic senses and prompt the loudest singalong this venue has seen for a while.

Shonen Knife On Sunday night I was pulled back in time, up into space, and transformed into an Osaka Ramone. Didn’t you go? Are you jealous? You should be! All three acts were excellent. They followed one another beautifully, but were diverse enough to give three wildly different experiences.

IDLES Luckily it wasn't a portent of doom that the evening commenced with the slogan 'Anger is an Energy' right before my peepers. Some hours later, Idles had done a striking job of recreating this refrain in aural form, and then some.
