Frank Turner Frank Turner is definitely an old favourite of mine, so when I spotted he was bringing his unique brand of folk-punk to Coventry, I jumped at the chance to go and see him again. Fresh off the Glastonbury stage, he came to Coventry to help raise money for Way Out Arts, an arts programme in Sierra Leone that changes the lives of street, vulnerable, and conflict affected young people through the arts. It’s a very worthy cause, so go check it out!

John Smith Confined within the grade one Georgian church, fairy lights twinkled from the rafters as the historic St Paul's church's pews filled up with patrons eagerly awaiting the fun filled folk night ahead. The refined crowd waited in anticipation as candles flickered on the stage for the intimate evening with John Smith and Katherine Priddy. Huddled in the wooden pews the crowd clapped loudly as Katherine appeared at the altar.

Seth Lakeman It has been a little over a year since Seth Lakeman last appeared at the Picturedrome. Judging by the familial welcome the packed house gives him, most were here last time around with a few more (like me) who were introduced to his viola and fiddle talents when supporting Robert Plant’s band on the recent Carry Fire tour of Europe and North America.

Jake Bugg It’s not often that you go to a sold out gig to see two bands, without an amp or a drum kit in sight, unless of course you’re attending a Folk Festival. This however was exactly what we were confronted with when seeing Jake Bugg doing his acoustic thing at De Montfort Hall on Monday night. Throw into the equation multiple members from the Bugg clan (one of whom performed as support) his lovely Nan and some glorious singalongs and it made for the perfect evening.
