Gig Review and Photography by Jason Broadhurst

Bullet For My Valentine

10 years has passed since Bullet For My Valentine hit the scene, headlining the Kerrang! Tour and it just so happened they are playing the very same venue again tonight. Alongside that they released their first full release ‘The Poison’, although tonight’s show isn’t about that there is definitely a sense of nostalgia with fans new and old in attendance.

Cane Hill

Before all that however there is a little band by the name of Cane Hill. With their music influences deeply rooted in Slipknot and Pantera the people who made the journey early to get to the front are treated to a hard hitting show of nu-metal.

Killswitch Engage

Killswitch Engage

Killswitch Engage reverted back to original frontman Jesse Leech back in 2012 and despite not hitting the heights they did around the mid 2000s they are still very much big players in the genre. It’s safe to say nobody with a ticket and rightly so. The band have great mix of songs both new and old on the setlist including the two fan favourites ‘The End Of Heartache’ and ‘My Curse’. It’s not often you get a support band that leaves everybody chanting their name for a 2 good minutes afterwards and it is thoroughly deserved, they could easily have carried on playing for longer and you would have been hard pressed to find a fan who wouldn’t have loved to see that.

The lights dim and the speakers fill the room with the iconic Motörhead track ‘Ace Of Spaces’, which is no doubt a tribute to the late Lemmy Kilmister. Chants of Bullet, Bullet, Bullet fill the room as the fans are really fired up.

Bullet For My Valentine

Opening tacks ‘No Way Out’ and ‘Your Betrayal’ set the fast and frantic tone we have come to expect from Bullet For My Valentine. They are now a much more composed and all rounded band onstage after years of playing to thousands of people in arenas, academies and festivals.

The biggest cheers of the night are for the song that propelled the band into the public eye, ‘Hand Of Blood’. A song that is full of raw energy and emotion which is something that can be seen on everybody’s face here tonight.

Returning for a brief encore including the hit ’Tears Don’t Fall’ which helps bring the evenings proceedings to a close. The fans brought an electric atmosphere tonight and the 3 bands who performed paid their part with 3 amazing performances. The gig has been full of nostalgia and I’m sure a lot of these fans may well be coming back for a second bite of the cherry tomorrow where Bullet For My Valentine will play ’The Poison’ in it’s entirety.
