Gig Review and Photography by Sophie Jones

A Day To Remember

Arriving at the box office full of excitement for the bands, panic started to set in as it seemed my name wasn’t down on the list of reviewers. Arrrggh, disaster! Fear not… it seemed I wasn’t the only one having trouble and after some nifty negotiations things eventually got sorted just as Decade took to the stage. Phew! Unfortunately I missed their set due to the initial gaffing around but from what I heard the crowd seems to be pretty hyped by the performance.

Lower Than Atlantis

Next up Lower Than Atlantis and from the minute they they appeared on stage screams and cheering could be heard. The boys started with “ Love Someone Else “ then went into “ Marilyn’s Manson” and “Criminal”. A lively opening.

Lower Than Atlantis

As the boys took a breather and took the opportunity to tune their equipment Mike Duce asked the room to sing Happy Birthday to a fan in the crowd, of course everyone joined in accompanied by Mike’s sweet vocals. Nice touch. As soon as the birthday ditty finished they dropped straight into their latest track “Emily”. The girls on the front row squealed with delight – it was too much for them to contain their excitement!

Mike asks the room if they knew who they were. The majority obviously did. He continued to ask if anyone had known them since 2011 when they first started before dropping into old track “Name” of the same era. Judging by the crowds positive reaction it seemed that the answer was in the affirmative.

They were well received with constant cheers, crowd surfers flying forward and mini mosh pits starting around the sides of the audience.

As A Day To Remember are due to take to the stage Eminem – Lose Yourself was blasted through the speakers; ensue the crowd erupting with noise and everyone having a giant sing along. For a moment I thought I was at another gig. The lights went down and then BOOM! Confetti greeted the crowd together with deafening screams. A taste of things to come.

As the boys went in to Downfall confetti canons blasted up showering everyone. Already people were surfing the crowd and making the security work hard for their money. The downside of this as a photographer is that it makes for limited space to photograph and means the occasional bash to the head.  All fun and games though :)

Jeremy scans the room, asks for the house lights to go up and is greeted with a chant of ”Jeremy Jeremy Jeremy “. Humbly he asks “what about everyone else?” to which the crowd dutifully oblige, delivering chants for each band member in turn.

A Day To Remember

A little off track Jeremy States that ADTR appreciate vaginas because otherwise none of use would be here and comically chants for vaginas start with the whole band laughing at what’s happening. The room continues chanting random words; Jeremy speaks up and says ‘Tits’? The room cheers as he guesses correctly. Having had enough of the tomfoolery, the singer announces it’s time for another song as they belt into Violence.

‘During Dead’ and ‘Buried People’ made the crowd go wild.  The sheer volume of people singing back was unreal and water was thrown through the air, which I suspect people would of been grateful of as the temperature in the room was rising.

It was the end of the night and the boys played “All Signs Point To Lauderdale” and as the went into the stock members of their team came on stage and threw Toilet Paper into the crowd, making me feel rather sorry for the cleaners. Back and fourth it went covering the whole room as strands where hanging off the balcony. Eeeek!

A Day To Remember

From start to finish the crowd surfing didn’t stop, the security meaning the security working extra hard to catch everyone flying forward but it seemed like there wasn’t enough men on the ground to catch them. People were singing at the top of their lungs and to add to the night beach balls, confetti, smoke and toilet paper were all added in for good measure, which all in all, meant that everyone in attendance had a ball.
